我必命爾亡於鋒刃、使爾屈身受戮、因我有命爾不應、有言爾不從、行我所惡、擇我所不悅也、○

我有命、爾不應、我有言、爾不從、我所不悅者、爾故為之、我所不喜者、爾故舉之、必數爾罪、使屈身受戮。

我命定爾為鋒刃所殺、屈身被戮、因我召爾、爾不應、我有言、我有言或作我誨爾爾不聽、行我所惡者、行我所惡者或作行惡於我前擇我所不悅者、

I will destine you for the sword, and all of you will fall in the slaughter; for I called but you did not answer, I spoke but you did not listen. You did evil in my sight and chose what displeases me.”

So I will make it your fate to be killed by swords. All of you will die in the battle. That’s because I called out to you, but you did not answer me. I spoke to you, but you did not listen. You did what is evil in my sight. You chose to do what does not please me.”

I will destine you to the sword, and all of you shall bow down to the slaughter, because, when I called, you did not answer; when I spoke, you did not listen, but you did what was evil in my eyes and chose what I did not delight in.”

now I will‘ destine’ you for the sword. All of you will bow down before the executioner. For when I called, you did not answer. When I spoke, you did not listen. You deliberately sinned— before my very eyes— and chose to do what you know I despise.”

You also have done all these things, says the LORD, and I have spoken to you over and over again. But you have not listened! You have refused to respond when I called you to repent!

The LORD God of their ancestors continually warned them through his messengers, for he felt compassion for his people and his dwelling place.But they mocked God’s messengers, despised his warnings, and ridiculed his prophets. Finally the LORD got very angry at his people and there was no one who could prevent his judgment.

When the harvest time was near, he sent his slaves to the tenants to collect his portion of the crop.But the tenants seized his slaves, beat one, killed another, and stoned another.Again he sent other slaves, more than the first, and they treated them the same way.Finally he sent his son to them, saying,‘ They will respect my son.’But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves,‘ This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and get his inheritance!’So they seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.Now when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?”They said to him,“ He will utterly destroy those evil men! Then he will lease the vineyard to other tenants who will give him his portion at the harvest.”Jesus said to them,“ Have you never read in the scriptures:‘ The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is from the Lord, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?For this reason I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.

“ But they refused to pay attention, turning away stubbornly and stopping their ears so they could not hear.Indeed, they made their heart as hard as diamond, so that they could not obey the Torah and the other words the LORD who rules over all had sent by his Spirit through the former prophets. Therefore, the LORD who rules over all had poured out great wrath.“‘ It then came about that just as I cried out, but they would not obey, so they will cry out, but I will not listen,’ the LORD LORD WHO RULES OVER ALL had said.

Why does no one challenge me when I come? Why does no one respond when I call? Is my hand too weak to deliver you? Do I lack the power to rescue you? Look, with a mere shout I can dry up the sea; I can turn streams into a desert, so the fish rot away and die from lack of water.

Should you not have obeyed the words that the LORD cried out through the former prophets when Jerusalem was peacefully inhabited and her surrounding cities, the Negev, and the Shephelah were also populated?

The king was furious! He sent his soldiers, and they put those murderers to death and set their city on fire.

“ Or suppose I were to bring a sword against that land and say,‘ Let a sword pass through the land,’ and I were to kill both people and animals.Even if these three men were in it, as surely as I live, declares the sovereign LORD, they could not save their own sons or daughters– they would save only their own lives.“ Or suppose I were to send a plague into that land, and pour out my rage on it with bloodshed, killing both people and animals.Even if Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, as surely as I live, declares the sovereign LORD, they could not save their own son or daughter; they would save only their own lives by their righteousness.“ For this is what the sovereign LORD says: How much worse will it be when I send my four terrible judgments– sword, famine, wild animals, and plague– to Jerusalem to kill both people and animals!

However, because I called but you refused to listen, because I stretched out my hand but no one paid attention,because you neglected all my advice, and did not comply with my rebuke,so I myself will laugh when disaster strikes you, I will mock when what you dread comes,when what you dread comes like a whirlwind, and disaster strikes you like a devastating storm, when distressing trouble comes on you.Then they will call to me, but I will not answer; they will diligently seek me, but they will not find me.Because they hated moral knowledge, and did not choose to fear the LORD,they did not comply with my advice, they spurned all my rebuke.Therefore they will eat from the fruit of their way, and they will be stuffed full of their own counsel.For the waywardness of the simpletons will kill them, and the careless ease of fools will destroy them.But the one who listens to me will live in security, and will be at ease from the dread of harm.

I look, but there is no one, among them there is no one who serves as an adviser, that I might ask questions and receive answers.

The sword will make people childless outside, and terror will do so inside; they will destroy both the young man and the virgin, the infant and the gray-haired man.

He came to what was his own, but his own people did not receive him.

So I, the LORD, say:“ You have not really obeyed me and granted freedom to your neighbor and fellow countryman. Therefore, I will grant you freedom, the freedom to die in war, or by starvation or disease. I, the LORD, affirm it! I will make all the kingdoms of the earth horrified at what happens to you.

So let their children die of starvation. Let them be cut down by the sword. Let their wives lose their husbands and children. Let the older men die of disease and the younger men die by the sword in battle.

The one who slaughters a bull also strikes down a man; the one who sacrifices a lamb also breaks a dog’s neck; the one who presents an offering includes pig’s blood with it; the one who offers incense also praises an idol. They have decided to behave this way; they enjoy these disgusting practices.So I will choose severe punishment for them; I will bring on them what they dread, because I called, and no one responded, I spoke and they did not listen. They did evil before me; they chose to do what displeases me.”

Wash! Cleanse yourselves! Remove your sinful deeds from my sight. Stop sinning!

At that time the LORD will punish with his destructive, great, and powerful sword Leviathan the fast-moving serpent, Leviathan the squirming serpent; he will kill the sea monster.

Your men will fall by the sword, your strong men will die in battle.

These people continually and blatantly offend me as they sacrifice in their sacred orchards and burn incense on brick altars.

I will bring on you an avenging sword, a covenant vengeance. Although you will gather together into your cities, I will send pestilence among you and you will be given into enemy hands.

For I see everything they do. Their wicked ways are not hidden from me. Their sin is not hidden away where I cannot see it.

He sent his slaves to summon those who had been invited to the banquet, but they would not come.

You will have no place to go, except to kneel with the prisoners, or to fall among those who have been killed. Despite all this, his anger does not subside, and his hand is ready to strike again.

“ I will attack Judah and all who live in Jerusalem. I will remove from this place every trace of Baal worship, as well as the very memory of the pagan priests.I will remove those who worship the stars in the sky from their rooftops, those who swear allegiance to the LORD while taking oaths in the name of their‘ king,’and those who turn their backs on the LORD and do not want the LORD’s help or guidance.”
