约柜停住的时候，他说：“以色列千万人的耶和华啊，求你回来！”

耶和华啊，我们要等到几时呢？求你转回，怜悯你的仆人们。

因为以色列家的人，或在以色列中寄居的外人，凡与我隔绝，在心中设立偶像，把陷自己于罪的绊脚石放在面前，却来到先知那里，要为自己的事求问我的，我—耶和华必亲自报应他。我要向那人变脸，使他成为警戒和笑柄，并且我要把他从我民中剪除；你们就知道我是耶和华。先知若被骗说了一句预言，是我—耶和华骗了那先知，我要伸手攻击他，把他从我百姓以色列中除灭。

“主使他们瞎了眼，使他们硬了心，免得他们眼睛看见，他们心里明白，回转过来，我会医治他们。”

要使这百姓心蒙油脂，耳朵发沉，眼睛昏花；恐怕他们眼睛看见，耳朵听见，心里明白，回转过来，就得医治。”

不要使我的心偏向邪恶的事，以致我和作恶的人一同行恶；也不叫我吃他们的美食。

我曾一心寻求你，求你不要使我偏离你的命令。

万军之神啊，求你转回，从天上垂看观察，眷顾这葡萄树；

求你使我的心趋向你的法度，不趋向不义之财。

于是，耶和华的使者说：“万军之耶和华啊，你恼恨耶路撒冷和犹大的城镇已经七十年了，你不施怜悯要到几时呢？”

由此看来，神要怜悯谁就怜悯谁，要使谁刚硬就使谁刚硬。这样，你会对我说：“那么，他为什么还指责人呢？有谁能抗拒他的旨意呢？”你这个人哪，你是谁，竟敢向神顶嘴呢？受造之物岂会对造他的说：“你为什么把我造成这样呢？”

主说：“因这百姓以口亲近我，用嘴唇尊敬我，心却远离我；他们敬畏我，不过是领受前人的命令。

因为耶和华的意思是要使他们的心刚硬，来与以色列人作战，好使他们全被杀灭，不蒙怜悯，反被除灭，正如耶和华所吩咐摩西的。

神啊，你为何永远丢弃我们呢？为何向你草场的羊发怒，如烟冒出呢？求你记念你古时得来的会众，就是你所赎、作你产业支派的，并记念你向来居住的锡安山。

故此，神就给他们一个引发错误的心，叫他们信从虚谎，使一切不信真理、倒喜爱不义的人都被定罪。

但希实本王西宏不肯让我们从他那里经过，因为耶和华—你的神使他性情顽梗，内心刚硬，为要把他交在你手中，像今日一样。
