O Jerusalem, I have posted watchmen on your walls; they will pray day and night, continually. Take no rest, all you who pray to the Lord.

I have posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the Lord, give yourselves no rest,

Jerusalem, I have stationed guards on your walls. They must never be silent day or night. You who call out to the Lord must not give yourselves any rest.

On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have set watchmen; all the day and all the night they shall never be silent. You who put the Lord in remembrance, take no rest,

Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen on your walls; they will never be silent, day or night. There is no rest for you, who remind the LORD.

On your walls, Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen; All day and all night they will never keep silent. You who profess the Lord, take no rest for yourselves;

I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; They shall never hold their peace day or night. You who make mention of the Lord, do not keep silent,

I post watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they should keep praying all day and all night. You who pray to the LORD, don’t be silent!

I have set watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem. They will never be silent day nor night. You who call on Yahweh, take no rest,

The watchmen shout and sing with joy, for before their very eyes they see the Lord returning to Jerusalem.

For the leaders of my people— the Lord’s watchmen, his shepherds— are blind and ignorant. They are like silent watchdogs that give no warning when danger comes. They love to lie around, sleeping and dreaming.

Never stop praying.

“ Son of man, I have appointed you as a watchman for Israel. Whenever you receive a message from me, warn people immediately.If I warn the wicked, saying,‘ You are under the penalty of death,’ but you fail to deliver the warning, they will die in their sins. And I will hold you responsible for their deaths.If you warn them and they refuse to repent and keep on sinning, they will die in their sins. But you will have saved yourself because you obeyed me.“ If righteous people turn away from their righteous behavior and ignore the obstacles I put in their way, they will die. And if you do not warn them, they will die in their sins. None of their righteous acts will be remembered, and I will hold you responsible for their deaths.But if you warn righteous people not to sin and they listen to you and do not sin, they will live, and you will have saved yourself, too.”

I posted watchmen over you who said,‘ Listen for the sound of the alarm.’ But you replied,‘ No! We won’t pay attention!’

“ Son of man, give your people this message:‘ When I bring an army against a country, the people of that land choose one of their own to be a watchman.When the watchman sees the enemy coming, he sounds the alarm to warn the people.Then if those who hear the alarm refuse to take action, it is their own fault if they die.They heard the alarm but ignored it, so the responsibility is theirs. If they had listened to the warning, they could have saved their lives.But if the watchman sees the enemy coming and doesn’t sound the alarm to warn the people, he is responsible for their captivity. They will die in their sins, but I will hold the watchman responsible for their deaths.’“ Now, son of man, I am making you a watchman for the people of Israel. Therefore, listen to what I say and warn them for me.If I announce that some wicked people are sure to die and you fail to tell them to change their ways, then they will die in their sins, and I will hold you responsible for their deaths.But if you warn them to repent and they don’t repent, they will die in their sins, but you will have saved yourself.

Then, teaching them more about prayer, he used this story:“ Suppose you went to a friend’s house at midnight, wanting to borrow three loaves of bread. You say to him,‘ A friend of mine has just arrived for a visit, and I have nothing for him to eat.’And suppose he calls out from his bedroom,‘ Don’t bother me. The door is locked for the night, and my family and I are all in bed. I can’t help you.’But I tell you this— though he won’t do it for friendship’s sake, if you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and give you whatever you need because of your shameless persistence.“ And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.“ You fathers— if your children ask for a fish, do you give them a snake instead?Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not!So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”

Remember that we are the people you chose long ago, the tribe you redeemed as your own special possession! And remember Jerusalem, your home here on earth.

Oh, praise the Lord, all you servants of the Lord, you who serve at night in the house of the Lord.Lift your hands toward the sanctuary, and praise the Lord.

In assigning the priests to their duties, Solomon followed the regulations of his father, David. He also assigned the Levites to lead the people in praise and to assist the priests in their daily duties. And he assigned the gatekeepers to their gates by their divisions, following the commands of David, the man of God.

Then the man said,“ Let me go, for the dawn is breaking!” But Jacob said,“ I will not let you go unless you bless me.”

Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit.

See how these enemies insult you, Lord. A foolish nation has dishonored your name.

Because I love Zion, I will not keep still. Because my heart yearns for Jerusalem, I cannot remain silent. I will not stop praying for her until her righteousness shines like the dawn, and her salvation blazes like a burning torch.

But you promised me,‘ I will surely treat you kindly, and I will multiply your descendants until they become as numerous as the sands along the seashore— too many to count.’”

Cornelius stared at him in terror.“ What is it, sir?” he asked the angel. And the angel replied,“ Your prayers and gifts to the poor have been received by God as an offering!

Here are some of the parts God has appointed for the church: first are apostles, second are prophets, third are teachers, then those who do miracles, those who have the gift of healing, those who can help others, those who have the gift of leadership, those who speak in unknown languages.

The night watchmen found me as they made their rounds. They beat and bruised me and stripped off my veil, those watchmen on the walls.

“ Be quiet!” the people in front yelled at him. But he only shouted louder,“ Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers.Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ.

They shouted to the Lord and said,“ O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you judge the people who belong to this world and avenge our blood for what they have done to us?”

In front of the throne was a shiny sea of glass, sparkling like crystal. In the center and around the throne were four living beings, each covered with eyes, front and back.The first of these living beings was like a lion; the second was like an ox; the third had a human face; and the fourth was like an eagle in flight.Each of these living beings had six wings, and their wings were covered all over with eyes, inside and out. Day after day and night after night they keep on saying,“ Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty— the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.”

One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up.“ There was a judge in a certain city,” he said,“ who neither feared God nor cared about people.A widow of that city came to him repeatedly, saying,‘ Give me justice in this dispute with my enemy.’The judge ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself,‘ I don’t fear God or care about people,but this woman is driving me crazy. I’m going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!’”Then the Lord said,“ Learn a lesson from this unjust judge.Even he rendered a just decision in the end. So don’t you think God will surely give justice to his chosen people who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?I tell you, he will grant justice to them quickly! But when the Son of Man returns, how many will he find on the earth who have faith?”

A Gentile woman who lived there came to him, pleading,“ Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! For my daughter is possessed by a demon that torments her severely.”But Jesus gave her no reply, not even a word. Then his disciples urged him to send her away.“ Tell her to go away,” they said.“ She is bothering us with all her begging.”Then Jesus said to the woman,“ I was sent only to help God’s lost sheep— the people of Israel.”But she came and worshiped him, pleading again,“ Lord, help me!”Jesus responded,“ It isn’t right to take food from the children and throw it to the dogs.”She replied,“ That’s true, Lord, but even dogs are allowed to eat the scraps that fall beneath their masters’ table.”

The watchmen stopped me as they made their rounds, and I asked,“ Have you seen the one I love?”

“ Please, Lord, prove that your power is as great as you have claimed. For you said,‘ The Lord is slow to anger and filled with unfailing love, forgiving every kind of sin and rebellion. But he does not excuse the guilty. He lays the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected— even children in the third and fourth generations.’In keeping with your magnificent, unfailing love, please pardon the sins of this people, just as you have forgiven them ever since they left Egypt.”
