The Spirit of the Lord GOD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom to the prisoners;

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,

The Spirit of the Lord and King is on me. The Lord has anointed me to announce good news to poor people. He has sent me to comfort those whose hearts have been broken. He has sent me to announce freedom for those who have been captured. He wants me to set prisoners free from their dark cells.

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;

He replied to them,“ Go and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive their sight, the lame walk, those with leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor are told the good news,

in order to open blind eyes, to bring out prisoners from the dungeon, and those sitting in darkness from the prison house.

As for you, because of the blood of your covenant, I will release your prisoners from the waterless cistern.Return to a stronghold, you prisoners who have hope; today I declare that I will restore double to you.

how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how he went about doing good and healing all who were under the tyranny of the devil, because God was with him.

saying to the prisoners,“ Come out,” and to those who are in darkness,“ Show yourselves.” They will feed along the pathways, and their pastures will be on all the barren heights.

The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him— a Spirit of wisdom and understanding, a Spirit of counsel and strength, a Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.His delight will be in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, he will not execute justice by what he hears with his ears,but he will judge the poor righteously and execute justice for the oppressed of the land. He will strike the land with a scepter from his mouth, and he will kill the wicked with a command from his lips.Righteousness will be a belt around his hips; faithfulness will be a belt around his waist.

The LORD is near the brokenhearted; he saves those crushed in spirit.

Approach me and listen to this. From the beginning I have not spoken in secret; from the time anything existed, I was there.” And now the Lord GOD has sent me and his Spirit.

For the one whom God sent speaks God’s words, since he gives the Spirit without measure.

to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a share among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’

When Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water. The heavens suddenly opened for him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming down on him.

“ Blessed are the poor in spirit, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.Blessed are the humble, for they will inherit the earth.

You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of joy more than your companions.

The humble will eat and be satisfied; those who seek the LORD will praise him. May your hearts live forever!

instructing his opponents with gentleness. Perhaps God will grant them repentance leading them to the knowledge of the truth.Then they may come to their senses and escape the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.

“ I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain.”

to hear a prisoner’s groaning, to set free those condemned to die,

The sacrifice pleasing to God is a broken spirit. You will not despise a broken and humbled heart, God.

“ As for me, this is my covenant with them,” says the LORD:“ My Spirit who is on you, and my words that I have put in your mouth, will not depart from your mouth, or from the mouths of your children, or from the mouths of your children’s children, from now on and forever,” says the LORD.

And John testified,“ I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and he rested on him.I didn’t know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water told me,‘ The one you see the Spirit descending and resting on— he is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’

Seventy weeks are decreed about your people and your holy city— to bring the rebellion to an end, to put a stop to sin, to atone for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy place.

You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; this is why God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of joy beyond your companions.

Can the prey be taken from a mighty man, or the captives of a tyrant be delivered?For this is what the LORD says:“ Even the captives of a mighty man will be taken, and the prey of a tyrant will be delivered; I will contend with the one who contends with you, and I will save your children.

The humble will see it and rejoice. You who seek God, take heart!

But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the arrival of Titus,

Don’t you know that if you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of that one you obey— either of sin leading to death or of obedience leading to righteousness?But thank God that, although you used to be slaves of sin, you obeyed from the heart that pattern of teaching to which you were handed over,and having been set free from sin, you became enslaved to righteousness.I am using a human analogy because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you offered the parts of yourselves as slaves to impurity, and to greater and greater lawlessness, so now offer them as slaves to righteousness, which results in sanctification.For when you were slaves of sin, you were free with regard to righteousness.So what fruit was produced then from the things you are now ashamed of? The outcome of those things is death.But now, since you have been set free from sin and have become enslaved to God, you have your fruit, which results in sanctification— and the outcome is eternal life!

My hand made all these things, and so they all came into being. This is the LORD’s declaration. I will look favorably on this kind of person: one who is humble, submissive in spirit, and trembles at my word.

but I see a different law in the parts of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and taking me prisoner to the law of sin in the parts of my body.What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with my mind I myself am serving the law of God, but with my flesh, the law of sin.

For the LORD takes pleasure in his people; he adorns the humble with salvation.

“ For, in fact, in this city both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, assembled together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed,

This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD after King Zedekiah made a covenant with all the people who were in Jerusalem to proclaim freedom to them.

Be joyful, rejoice together, you ruins of Jerusalem! For the LORD has comforted his people; he has redeemed Jerusalem.
