其中居民、尚存什一、屢遭喪敗、譬彼橡樹、雖經斬伐、猶留其幹、為善之人亦若是。

其中所遺、雖僅十分之一、亦歸滅絕、然猶存聖裔、為斯地之根本、如栗樹橡樹、雖經斬伐、根本尚存、或作譬彼栗樹橡樹斬伐枝條尚留根株聖種猶存為斯地之根本亦復若是

And though a tenth remains in the land, it will again be laid waste. But as the terebinth and oak leave stumps when they are cut down, so the holy seed will be the stump in the land.”

Suppose only a tenth of the people remain there. Even then the land will be completely destroyed again. But when oak trees and terebinth trees are cut down, stumps are left. And my holy people will be like stumps that begin to grow again.”

If even a tenth— a remnant— survive, it will be invaded again and burned. But as a terebinth or oak tree leaves a stump when it is cut down, so Israel’s stump will be a holy seed.”

And if there be yet a tenth in it, it also shall in turn be eaten up: as a terebinth, and as an oak, whose stock remaineth, when they are felled; so the holy seed is the stock thereof.

But yet in it[ shall be] a tenth, and[ it] shall return, and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance[ is] in them, when they cast[ their leaves: so] the holy seed[ shall be] the substance thereof.

Even if only a tenth of the people remain in the land, it will again be destroyed, like one of the large sacred trees or an Asherah pole, when a sacred pillar on a high place is thrown down. That sacred pillar symbolizes the special chosen family.”

If there is a tenth left in it, that also will in turn be consumed, as a terebinth, and as an oak, whose stump remains when they are cut down; so the holy seed is its stock.”

“ For there is hope for a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that its shoots will not cease.Though its root grow old in the earth, and its stump die in the soil,yet at the scent of water it will bud and put out branches like a young plant.

So too at the present time there is a remnant, chosen by grace.But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace.

If the Lord of hosts had not left us a few survivors, we should have been like Sodom, and become like Gomorrah.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise.

For they have taken some of their daughters to be wives for themselves and for their sons, so that the holy race has mixed itself with the peoples of the lands. And in this faithlessness the hand of the officials and chief men has been foremost.”

If the dough offered as firstfruits is holy, so is the whole lump, and if the root is holy, so are the branches.But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root of the olive tree,do not be arrogant toward the branches. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you.Then you will say,“ Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.”That is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast through faith. So do not become proud, but fear.For if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you.Note then the kindness and the severity of God: severity toward those who have fallen, but God’s kindness to you, provided you continue in his kindness. Otherwise you too will be cut off.And even they, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God has the power to graft them in again.For if you were cut from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and grafted, contrary to nature, into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, the natural branches, be grafted back into their own olive tree.Lest you be wise in your own sight, I do not want you to be unaware of this mystery, brothers: a partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.And in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written,“ The Deliverer will come from Zion, he will banish ungodliness from Jacob”;“ and this will be my covenant with them when I take away their sins.”As regards the gospel, they are enemies for your sake. But as regards election, they are beloved for the sake of their forefathers.For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.

and in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.”

And if those days had not been cut short, no human being would be saved. But for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.

Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say,“ And to offsprings,” referring to many, but referring to one,“ And to your offspring,” who is Christ.This is what I mean: the law, which came 430 years afterward, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to make the promise void.For if the inheritance comes by the law, it no longer comes by promise; but God gave it to Abraham by a promise.Why then the law? It was added because of transgressions, until the offspring should come to whom the promise had been made, and it was put in place through angels by an intermediary.

In that day the remnant of Israel and the survivors of the house of Jacob will no more lean on him who struck them, but will lean on the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.A remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God.For though your people Israel be as the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will return. Destruction is decreed, overflowing with righteousness.

And if the Lord had not cut short the days, no human being would be saved. But for the sake of the elect, whom he chose, he shortened the days.

Thus says the Lord:“ As the new wine is found in the cluster, and they say,‘ Do not destroy it, for there is a blessing in it,’ so I will do for my servants’ sake, and not destroy them all.I will bring forth offspring from Jacob, and from Judah possessors of my mountains; my chosen shall possess it, and my servants shall dwell there.

To them belong the patriarchs, and from their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ, who is God over all, blessed forever. Amen.

“ I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you.

Did he not make them one, with a portion of the Spirit in their union? And what was the one God seeking? Godly offspring. So guard yourselves in your spirit, and let none of you be faithless to the wife of your youth.

And he who is left in Zion and remains in Jerusalem will be called holy, everyone who has been recorded for life in Jerusalem,
