假令其中尚存什一、亦被焚燬、若栗與橡、經伐留幹、其幹乃聖裔也、

其中居民、尚存什一、屢遭喪敗、譬彼橡樹、雖經斬伐、猶留其幹、為善之人亦若是。

其中所遺、雖僅十分之一、亦歸滅絕、然猶存聖裔、為斯地之根本、如栗樹橡樹、雖經斬伐、根本尚存、或作譬彼栗樹橡樹斬伐枝條尚留根株聖種猶存為斯地之根本亦復若是

And though a tenth remains in the land, it will again be laid waste. But as the terebinth and oak leave stumps when they are cut down, so the holy seed will be the stump in the land.”

Suppose only a tenth of the people remain there. Even then the land will be completely destroyed again. But when oak trees and terebinth trees are cut down, stumps are left. And my holy people will be like stumps that begin to grow again.”

And though a tenth remain in it, it will be burned again, like a terebinth or an oak, whose stump remains when it is felled.” The holy seed is its stump.

If even a tenth— a remnant— survive, it will be invaded again and burned. But as a terebinth or oak tree leaves a stump when it is cut down, so Israel’s stump will be a holy seed.”

Yet there will still be a tenth portion in it, And it will again be subject to burning, Like a terebinth or an oak Whose stump remains when it is cut down. The holy seed is its stump.”

But yet a tenth will be in it, And will return and be for consuming, As a terebinth tree or as an oak, Whose stump remains when it is cut down. So the holy seed shall be its stump.”

And if there be yet a tenth in it, it also shall in turn be eaten up: as a terebinth, and as an oak, whose stock remaineth, when they are felled; so the holy seed is the stock thereof.

But yet in it[ shall be] a tenth, and[ it] shall return, and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance[ is] in them, when they cast[ their leaves: so] the holy seed[ shall be] the substance thereof.

Even if only a tenth of the people remain in the land, it will again be destroyed, like one of the large sacred trees or an Asherah pole, when a sacred pillar on a high place is thrown down. That sacred pillar symbolizes the special chosen family.”

If there is a tenth left in it, that also will in turn be consumed, as a terebinth, and as an oak, whose stump remains when they are cut down; so the holy seed is its stock.”

There is hope for a tree: If it is cut down, it will sprout again, and its shoots will not die.If its roots grow old in the ground and its stump starts to die in the soil,the scent of water makes it thrive and produce twigs like a sapling.

In the same way, then, there is also at the present time a remnant chosen by grace.Now if by grace, then it is not by works; otherwise grace ceases to be grace.

If the LORD of Armies had not left us a few survivors, we would be like Sodom, we would resemble Gomorrah.

There is no Jew or Greek, slave or free, male and female; since you are all one in Christ Jesus.And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, heirs according to the promise.

Indeed, the Israelite men have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and their sons, so that the holy seed has become mixed with the surrounding peoples. The leaders and officials have taken the lead in this unfaithfulness!”

Now if the firstfruits are holy, so is the whole batch. And if the root is holy, so are the branches.Now if some of the branches were broken off, and you, though a wild olive branch, were grafted in among them and have come to share in the rich root of the cultivated olive tree,do not boast that you are better than those branches. But if you do boast— you do not sustain the root, but the root sustains you.Then you will say,“ Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.”True enough; they were broken off because of unbelief, but you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but beware,because if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either.Therefore, consider God’s kindness and severity: severity toward those who have fallen but God’s kindness toward you— if you remain in his kindness. Otherwise you too will be cut off.And even they, if they do not remain in unbelief, will be grafted in, because God has the power to graft them in again.For if you were cut off from your native wild olive tree and against nature were grafted into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these— the natural branches— be grafted into their own olive tree?I don’t want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you will not be conceited: A partial hardening has come upon Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.And in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written, The Deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob.And this will be my covenant with them when I take away their sins.Regarding the gospel, they are enemies for your advantage, but regarding election, they are loved because of the patriarchs,since God’s gracious gifts and calling are irrevocable.

And all the nations of the earth will be blessed by your offspring because you have obeyed my command.”

Unless those days were cut short, no one would be saved. But those days will be cut short because of the elect.

Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say“ and to seeds,” as though referring to many, but referring to one, and to your seed, who is Christ.My point is this: The law, which came 430 years later, does not invalidate a covenant previously established by God and thus cancel the promise.For if the inheritance is based on the law, it is no longer based on the promise; but God has graciously given it to Abraham through the promise.Why, then, was the law given? It was added for the sake of transgressions until the Seed to whom the promise was made would come. The law was put into effect through angels by means of a mediator.

On that day the remnant of Israel and the survivors of the house of Jacob will no longer depend on the one who struck them, but they will faithfully depend on the LORD, the Holy One of Israel.The remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the Mighty God.Israel, even if your people were as numerous as the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will return. Destruction has been decreed; justice overflows.

If the Lord had not cut those days short, no one would be saved. But he cut those days short for the sake of the elect, whom he chose.

The LORD says this:“ As the new wine is found in a bunch of grapes, and one says,‘ Don’t destroy it, for there’s some good in it,’ so I will act because of my servants and not destroy them all.I will produce descendants from Jacob, and heirs to my mountains from Judah; my chosen ones will possess it, and my servants will dwell there.

The ancestors are theirs, and from them, by physical descent, came the Christ, who is God over all, praised forever. Amen.

“ I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.Every branch in me that does not produce fruit he removes, and he prunes every branch that produces fruit so that it will produce more fruit.You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.

Didn’t God make them one and give them a portion of spirit? What is the one seeking? Godly offspring. So watch yourselves carefully, so that no one acts treacherously against the wife of his youth.

Whoever remains in Zion and whoever is left in Jerusalem will be called holy— all in Jerusalem written in the book of life—
