They don’t know how to live at peace with others. What they do isn’t fair. They lead twisted lives. No one who lives like that will enjoy peace and rest.

Listen to the word of the Lord, you sons of Israel, Because the Lord has a case against the inhabitants of the land, For there is no faithfulness, nor loyalty, Nor knowledge of God in the land.There is oath taking, denial, murder, stealing, and adultery. They employ violence, so that bloodshed follows bloodshed.

Whose paths are crooked, And who are devious in their ways;

Do you indeed speak righteousness, you gods? Do you judge fairly, you sons of mankind?No, in heart you practice injustice; On earth you clear a way for the violence of your hands.

Justice is turned back, And righteousness stands far away; For truth has stumbled in the street, And uprightness cannot enter.Truth is lacking, And one who turns aside from evil makes himself a prey. Now the Lord saw, And it was displeasing in His sight that there was no justice.

“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier provisions of the Law: justice and mercy and faithfulness; but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others.

And they have not known the way of peace.”

But as for those who turn aside to their crooked ways, The Lord will lead them away with those who practice injustice. Peace be upon Israel.

For the vineyard of the Lord of armies is the house of Israel, And the people of Judah are His delightful plant. So He waited for justice, but behold, there was bloodshed; For righteousness, but behold, a cry for help.

Her ways are pleasant ways, And all her paths are peace.

Are they better than these kingdoms, Or is their territory greater than yours?Are you postponing the day of disaster, And would you bring near the seat of violence?Those who lie on beds of ivory, And lounge around on their couches, And eat lambs from the flock, And calves from the midst of the fattened cattle,Who improvise to the sound of the harp, And like David have composed songs for themselves,Who drink wine from sacred bowls While they anoint themselves with the finest of oils— Yet they have not grieved over the collapse of Joseph.
