His confidence is severed, and his trust is a spider’s web.He leans against his house, but it does not stand; he lays hold of it, but it does not endure.

just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom God counts righteousness apart from works:“ Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered;blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count his sin.”

O Lord, how long shall I cry for help, and you will not hear? Or cry to you“ Violence!” and you will not save?Why do you make me see iniquity, and why do you idly look at wrong? Destruction and violence are before me; strife and contention arise.So the law is paralyzed, and justice never goes forth. For the wicked surround the righteous; so justice goes forth perverted.

O you who put far away the day of disaster and bring near the seat of violence?

For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see.

Your rich men are full of violence; your inhabitants speak lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.

Woe to those who devise wickedness and work evil on their beds! When the morning dawns, they perform it, because it is in the power of their hand.They covet fields and seize them, and houses, and take them away; they oppress a man and his house, a man and his inheritance.Therefore thus says the Lord: behold, against this family I am devising disaster, from which you cannot remove your necks, and you shall not walk haughtily, for it will be a time of disaster.

On that day I will punish everyone who leaps over the threshold, and those who fill their master’s house with violence and fraud.

Behold, you fast only to quarrel and to fight and to hit with a wicked fist. Fasting like yours this day will not make your voice to be heard on high.

But lately my people have risen up as an enemy; you strip the rich robe from those who pass by trustingly with no thought of war.

No, in your hearts you devise wrongs; your hands deal out violence on earth.

Her officials within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves that leave nothing till the morning.Her prophets are fickle, treacherous men; her priests profane what is holy; they do violence to the law.
