Their cobwebs are useless for clothing; they cannot cover themselves with what they make. Their deeds are evil deeds, and acts of violence are in their hands.

Those people weave their evil plans together like a spider’s web. But the webs they make can’t be used as clothes. They can’t cover themselves with what they make. Their acts are evil. They do things to harm others.

Their webs will not serve as clothing; men will not cover themselves with what they make. Their works are works of iniquity, and deeds of violence are in their hands.

Their webs can’t be made into clothing, and nothing they do is productive. All their activity is filled with sin, and violence is their trademark.

For we are all become as one that is unclean, and all our righteousnesses are as a polluted garment: and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.

For they know not to do right, saith Jehovah, who store up violence and robbery in their palaces.

Whose confidence shall break in sunder, And whose trust is a spider’s web.He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: He shall hold fast thereby, but it shall not endure.

Even as David also pronounceth blessing upon the man, unto whom God reckoneth righteousness apart from works,saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, And whose sins are covered.Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not reckon sin.

O Jehovah, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear? I cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save.Why dost thou show me iniquity, and look upon perverseness? for destruction and violence are before me; and there is strife, and contention riseth up.Therefore the law is slacked, and justice doth never go forth; for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore justice goeth forth perverted.

— ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;

Because thou sayest, I am rich, and have gotten riches, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art the wretched one and miserable and poor and blind and naked:I counsel thee to buy of me gold refined by fire, that thou mayest become rich; and white garments, that thou mayest clothe thyself, and that the shame of thy nakedness be not made manifest; and eyesalve to anoint thine eyes, that thou mayest see.

For the rich men thereof are full of violence, and the inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.

because by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified in his sight; for through the law cometh the knowledge of sin.But now apart from the law a righteousness of God hath been manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ unto all them that believe; for there is no distinction;

Woe to them that devise iniquity and work evil upon their beds! when the morning is light, they practise it, because it is in the power of their hand.And they covet fields, and seize them; and houses, and take them away: and they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.Therefore thus saith Jehovah: Behold, against this family do I devise an evil, from which ye shall not remove your necks, neither shall ye walk haughtily; for it is an evil time.

And in that day I will punish all those that leap over the threshold, that fill their master’s house with violence and deceit.

Behold, ye fast for strife and contention, and to smite with the fist of wickedness: ye fast not this day so as to make your voice to be heard on high.

For the vineyard of Jehovah of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for justice, but, behold, oppression; for righteousness, but, behold, a cry.

But of late my people is risen up as an enemy: ye strip the robe from off the garment from them that pass by securely as men averse from war.

Nay, in heart ye work wickedness; Ye weigh out the violence of your hands in the earth.

Her princes in the midst of her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they leave nothing till the morrow.Her prophets are light and treacherous persons; her priests have profaned the sanctuary, they have done violence to the law.
