So justice is driven back, and righteousness stands at a distance; truth has stumbled in the streets, honesty cannot enter.

So people stop others from doing what is fair. They keep them from doing what is right. No one tells the truth in court anymore. No one is honest there.

Justice is turned back, and righteousness stands far away; for truth has stumbled in the public squares, and uprightness cannot enter.

Our courts oppose the righteous, and justice is nowhere to be found. Truth stumbles in the streets, and honesty has been outlawed.

爾曹不秉公審判、反徇惡人情面、將至何時、細拉、爾曹當為卑弱者及孤兒伸冤、當為困苦貧窮者辨屈、當保護卑弱貧窮之人、救其脫離惡人之手、但彼皆無知、不明情理、行於黑暗、世之根基盡皆動搖、

彼納賄賂、以理之非者為是、以理之是者為非、

我又見日下審判之所、竟有偏私、當行公義之處、反有不義、

雅各族之長者、以色列族之秉權者、厭惡公義、以直為曲者、當聽斯言、爾曹殺人以建郇、行惡以建耶路撒冷、長者聽訟受賄、祭司訓民圖利、先知占卜謀財、猶自以為倚賴主、曰、主在我間、禍必不臨我身、

可歎斯邑昔為忠信、今成如妓、昔公平充盈其中、善義託處其間、今則殺人者居之、

禍哉此邑、悖逆污穢、暴虐是行、彼不聽命、不受教、不倚賴主、不就近其天主、其中侯伯若咆哮之獅、其士師如夜出之狼、盡噬所攫、毫不存至明日、盡噬所攫毫不存至明日或作盡噬所得至於明日無餘骨可囓

長者或作牧伯伸手索賄、以非為是、或作手皆行惡且盡力行之長者索賄士師審判求利、大夫所言惟私慾、彼此聯絡為非、若編繩索、彼所謂善者、等諸荊棘、彼所謂正者、同於蒺藜、或作彼之最善義者惟如荊棘彼之最正直者但如蒺藜爾中先知所言之日、即爾受罰之日速至、是時眾俱荒亂、勿信同儔、勿恃密友、或作謹防同儔勿信密友向眷愛之妻、亦謹守爾口、
