Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter— when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?

Share your food with hungry people. Provide homeless people with a place to stay. Give naked people clothes to wear. Provide for the needs of your own family.

Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?

Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help.

Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, to bring the poor and homeless into your house, to clothe the naked when you see him, and not to ignore your own flesh and blood?

He who gives to the poor will not lack, But he who hides his eyes will have many curses.

He who has a generous eye will be blessed, For he gives of his bread to the poor.

He answered and said to them,“ He who has two tunics, let him give to him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise.”

for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in;I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’“ Then the righteous will answer Him, saying,‘ Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink?When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You?Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’And the King will answer and say to them,‘ Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’“ Then He will also say to those on the left hand,‘ Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink;I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’“ Then they also will answer Him, saying,‘ Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’Then He will answer them, saying,‘ Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’

If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink;

If you extend your soul to the hungry And satisfy the afflicted soul, Then your light shall dawn in the darkness, And your darkness shall be as the noonday.

Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels.Remember the prisoners as if chained with them— those who are mistreated— since you yourselves are in the body also.

“ Take counsel, execute judgment; Make your shadow like the night in the middle of the day; Hide the outcasts, Do not betray him who escapes.Let My outcasts dwell with you, O Moab; Be a shelter to them from the face of the spoiler. For the extortioner is at an end, Devastation ceases, The oppressors are consumed out of the land.

But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.As it is written:“ He has dispersed abroad, He has given to the poor; His righteousness endures forever.”Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness,

Now when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them; and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household.

But rather give alms of such things as you have; then indeed all things are clean to you.

Therefore“ If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.”Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Therefore, O king, let my advice be acceptable to you; break off your sins by being righteous, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor. Perhaps there may be a lengthening of your prosperity.”

( But from my youth I reared him as a father, And from my mother’s womb I guided the widow);If I have seen anyone perish for lack of clothing, Or any poor man without covering;If his heart has not blessed me, And if he was not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;If I have raised my hand against the fatherless, When I saw I had help in the gate;

If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food,and one of you says to them,“ Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit?

Cast your bread upon the waters, For you will find it after many days.Give a serving to seven, and also to eight, For you do not know what evil will be on the earth.

Then Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord,“ Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold.”

You have not given the weary water to drink, And you have withheld bread from the hungry.

Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children; and indeed we are forcing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and some of our daughters have been brought into slavery. It is not in our power to redeem them, for other men have our lands and vineyards.”

And he said,“ Here now, my lords, please turn in to your servant’s house and spend the night, and wash your feet; then you may rise early and go on your way.” And they said,“ No, but we will spend the night in the open square.”

For we have great joy and consolation in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed by you, brother.

He has dispersed abroad, He has given to the poor; His righteousness endures forever; His horn will be exalted with honor.

And when she and her household were baptized, she begged us, saying,“ If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay.” So she persuaded us.

And the old man said,“ Peace be with you! However, let all your needs be my responsibility; only do not spend the night in the open square.”So he brought him into his house, and gave fodder to the donkeys. And they washed their feet, and ate and drank.

Then the men who were designated by name rose up and took the captives, and from the spoil they clothed all who were naked among them, dressed them and gave them sandals, gave them food and drink, and anointed them; and they let all the feeble ones ride on donkeys. So they brought them to their brethren at Jericho, the city of palm trees. Then they returned to Samaria.

well reported for good works: if she has brought up children, if she has lodged strangers, if she has washed the saints’ feet, if she has relieved the afflicted, if she has diligently followed every good work.

He said to him,“ What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?”So he answered and said,“‘ You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and‘ your neighbor as yourself.’”And He said to him,“ You have answered rightly; do this and you will live.”But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus,“ And who is my neighbor?”Then Jesus answered and said:“ A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side.But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion.So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him,‘ Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.’So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?”

So he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing by him; and when he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them, and bowed himself to the ground,and said,“ My Lord, if I have now found favor in Your sight, do not pass on by Your servant.Please let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree.And I will bring a morsel of bread, that you may refresh your hearts. After that you may pass by, inasmuch as you have come to your servant.” They said,“ Do as you have said.”

“ Please speak in the hearing of all the men of Shechem:‘ Which is better for you, that all seventy of the sons of Jerubbaal reign over you, or that one reign over you?’ Remember that I am your own flesh and bone.”

So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who had married his daughters, and said,“ Get up, get out of this place; for the Lord will destroy this city!” But to his sons-in-law he seemed to be joking.
