I was enraged by their sinful greed; I punished them, and hid my face in anger, yet they kept on in their willful ways.

I was very angry with them. They always longed for more and more of everything. So I punished them for that sin. I turned my face away from them because I was angry. But they kept on wanting their own way.

Because of the iniquity of his unjust gain I was angry, I struck him; I hid my face and was angry, but he went on backsliding in the way of his own heart.

I was angry, so I punished these greedy people. I withdrew from them, but they kept going on their own stubborn way.

After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need.So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs.He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything. Woe to you who add house to house and join field to field till no space is left and you live alone in the land.The Lord Almighty has declared in my hearing:“ Surely the great houses will become desolate, the fine mansions left without occupants. (niv)

My people come to you, as they usually do, and sit before you to hear your words, but they do not put them into practice. Their mouths speak of love, but their hearts are greedy for unjust gain. (niv)

Lord, do not your eyes look for truth? You struck them, but they felt no pain; you crushed them, but they refused correction. They made their faces harder than stone and refused to repent. (niv)

They covet fields and seize them, and houses, and take them. They defraud people of their homes, they rob them of their inheritance.Therefore, the Lord says:“ I am planning disaster against this people, from which you cannot save yourselves. You will no longer walk proudly, for it will be a time of calamity. (niv)

I will wait for the Lord, who is hiding his face from the descendants of Jacob. I will put my trust in him. (niv)

In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping. (niv)

Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. (niv)

Better what the eye sees than the roving of the appetite. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. (niv)

But the people have not returned to him who struck them, nor have they sought the Lord Almighty. (niv)

Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. (niv)

With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in greed— an accursed brood! (niv)

Truly you are a God who has been hiding himself, the God and Savior of Israel. (niv)
