惟我能告爾何以稱義、亦能示爾所當為及於爾無益者、亦能示爾所當為及於爾無益者或作亦能示爾所行者無益於爾

I will expose your righteousness and your works, and they will not benefit you.

You have not done what is right or good. I will let everyone know about it. And that will not be of any benefit to you.

Now I will expose your so called good deeds. None of them will help you.

“ What are your many sacrifices to Me?” Says the Lord.“ I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams And the fat of fattened cattle; And I take no pleasure in the blood of bulls, lambs, or goats.When you come to appear before Me, Who requires of you this trampling of My courtyards?Do not go on bringing your worthless offerings, Incense is an abomination to Me. New moon and Sabbath, the proclamation of an assembly— I cannot endure wrongdoing and the festive assembly.I hate your new moon festivals and your appointed feasts, They have become a burden to Me; I am tired of bearing them.So when you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide My eyes from you; Yes, even though you offer many prayers, I will not be listening. Your hands are covered with blood.

You who hate good and love evil, Who tear off their skin from them And their flesh from their bones,Who eat the flesh of my people, Strip off their skin from them, Smash their bones, And chop them up as for the pot, And as meat in a cauldron!”Then they will cry out to the Lord, But He will not answer them. Instead, He will hide His face from them at that time Because they have practiced evil deeds.

Yet they seek Me day by day and delight to know My ways, As a nation that has done righteousness And has not forsaken the ordinance of their God. They ask Me for just decisions, They delight in the nearness of God.‘ Why have we fasted and You do not see? Why have we humbled ourselves and You do not notice?’ Behold, on the day of your fast you find your desire, And oppress all your workers.Behold, you fast for contention and strife, and to strike with a wicked fist. You do not fast like you have done today to make your voice heard on high!Is it a fast like this that I choose, a day for a person to humble himself? Is it for bowing one’s head like a reed And for spreading out sackcloth and ashes as a bed? Will you call this a fast, even an acceptable day to the Lord?Is this not the fast that I choose: To release the bonds of wickedness, To undo the ropes of the yoke, And to let the oppressed go free, And break every yoke?

“ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you shut the kingdom of heaven in front of people; for you do not enter it yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.

Do not trust in deceptive words, saying,‘ This is the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord.’For if you truly amend your ways and your deeds, if you truly practice justice between a person and his neighbor,if you do not oppress the stranger, the orphan, or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place, nor follow other gods to your own ruin,then I will let you live in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers forever and ever.“ Behold, you are trusting in deceptive words to no avail.Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, offer sacrifices to Baal, and follow other gods that you have not known,then come and stand before Me in this house which is called by My name, and say,‘ We are saved!’— so that you may do all these abominations?Has this house, which is called by My name, become a den of robbers in your sight? Behold, I Myself have seen it,” declares the Lord.

And they do all their deeds to be noticed by other people; for they broaden their phylacteries and lengthen the tassels of their garments.

You meet him who rejoices in doing righteousness, Who remembers You in Your ways. Behold, You were angry, for we sinned, We continued in our sins for a long time; Yet shall we be saved?

Woe to those who deeply hide their plans from the Lord, And whose deeds are done in a dark place, And they say,“ Who sees us?” or“ Who knows us?”

Their webs will not become clothing, Nor will they cover themselves with their works; Their works are works of wrongdoing, And an act of violence is in their hands.Their feet run to evil, And they hurry to shed innocent blood; Their thoughts are thoughts of wrongdoing, Devastation and destruction are in their paths.They do not know the way of peace, And there is no justice in their tracks; They have made their paths crooked, Whoever walks on them does not know peace.

as it is written:“ There is no righteous person, not even one;There is no one who understands, There is no one who seeks out God;They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt; There is no one who does good, There is not even one.”“ Their throat is an open grave, With their tongues they keep deceiving,”“ The venom of asps is under their lips”;“ Their mouth is full of cursing and bitterness”;“ Their feet are swift to shed blood,Destruction and misery are in their paths,And they have not known the way of peace.”“ There is no fear of God before their eyes.”Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God;because by the works of the Law none of mankind will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes knowledge of sin.

“ But the one who slaughters an ox is like one who kills a person; The one who sacrifices a lamb is like one who breaks a dog’s neck; One who offers a grain offering is like one who offers pig’s blood; One who burns incense is like one who blesses an idol. As they have chosen their own ways, And their souls delight in their abominations,So I will choose their punishments And bring on them what they dread. Because I called, but no one answered; I spoke, but they did not listen. Instead, they did evil in My sight And chose that in which I did not delight.”

For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge.For not knowing about God’s righteousness and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.
