You wore yourself out with all your efforts. But you would not say,‘ It’s hopeless.’ You received new strength. So you did not give up.

Friend deceives friend, and no one speaks the truth. They have taught their tongues to lie; they weary themselves with sinning.

Lord, do not your eyes look for truth? You struck them, but they felt no pain; you crushed them, but they refused correction. They made their faces harder than stone and refused to repent.

All the counsel you have received has only worn you out! Let your astrologers come forward, those stargazers who make predictions month by month, let them save you from what is coming upon you.

Has not the Lord Almighty determined that the people’s labor is only fuel for the fire, that the nations exhaust themselves for nothing?

Why do you go about so much, changing your ways? You will be disappointed by Egypt as you were by Assyria.

Therefore the showers have been withheld, and no spring rains have fallen. Yet you have the brazen look of a prostitute; you refuse to blush with shame.

We will certainly do everything we said we would: We will burn incense to the Queen of Heaven and will pour out drink offerings to her just as we and our ancestors, our kings and our officials did in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. In his time of trouble King Ahaz became even more unfaithful to the Lord.He offered sacrifices to the gods of Damascus, who had defeated him; for he thought,“ Since the gods of the kings of Aram have helped them, I will sacrifice to them so they will help me.” But they were his downfall and the downfall of all Israel.

It has frustrated all efforts; its heavy deposit has not been removed, not even by fire.
