Israel’s watchmen are blind, they all lack knowledge; they are all mute dogs, they cannot bark; they lie around and dream, they love to sleep.

Israel’s prophets are blind. They don’t know the Lord. All of them are like watchdogs that can’t even bark. They just lie around and dream. They love to sleep.

His watchmen are blind; they are all without knowledge; they are all silent dogs; they cannot bark, dreaming, lying down, loving to slumber.

For the leaders of my people— the Lord’s watchmen, his shepherds— are blind and ignorant. They are like silent watchdogs that give no warning when danger comes. They love to lie around, sleeping and dreaming.

Israel’s watchmen are blind, all of them, they know nothing; all of them are mute dogs, they cannot bark; they dream, lie down, and love to sleep.

Beware of the dogs, beware of the evil workers, beware of the false circumcision;

For the Lord has poured over you a spirit of deep sleep, He has shut your eyes— the prophets; And He has covered your heads— the seers.

Leave them alone; they are blind guides of blind people. And if a person who is blind guides another who is blind, both will fall into a pit.”

The days of punishment have come, The days of retribution have come; Let Israel know this! The prophet is a fool, The inspired person is insane, Because of the grossness of your wrongdoing, And because your hostility is so great.Ephraim was a watchman with my God, a prophet; Yet the snare of a bird catcher is in all his ways, And there is only hostility in the house of his God.

Your shepherds are sleeping, O king of Assyria; Your officers are lying down. Your people are scattered on the mountains And there is no one to gather them.

along with the prophets of Israel who prophesy to Jerusalem, and who see a vision of peace for her when there is no peace,’ declares the Lord God.

“ Cry loudly, do not hold back; Raise your voice like a trumpet, And declare to My people their wrongdoing, And to the house of Jacob their sins.

But I said,“ Oh, Lord God! Behold, the prophets are telling them,‘ You will not see a sword, nor will you have famine; on the contrary, I will give you lasting peace in this place.’ ”Then the Lord said to me,“ The prophets are prophesying falsehood in My name. I have neither sent them nor commanded them, nor spoken to them; they are prophesying to you a false vision, divination, futility, and the deception of their own minds.

Listen! Your watchmen raise their voices, They shout joyfully together; For they will see with their own eyes When the Lord restores Zion.

But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the horn and the people are not warned, and a sword comes and takes a person from them, he is taken away for his wrongdoing; but I will require his blood from the watchman’s hand.’

Moreover, I will make your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth so that you will be unable to speak and will not be a man who reprimands them, since they are a rebellious house.But when I speak to you, I will open your mouth and you will say to them,‘ This is what the Lord God says:’ The one who hears, let him hear; and the one who refuses, let him refuse; for they are a rebellious house.

Then I came to the exiles who lived beside the river Chebar at Tel abib, and I sat there for seven days where they were living, causing consternation among them.Now at the end of seven days the word of the Lord came to me, saying,“ Son of man, I have appointed you as a watchman for the house of Israel; whenever you hear a word from My mouth, warn them from Me.When I say to the wicked,‘ You will certainly die,’ and you do not warn him or speak out to warn the wicked from his wicked way so that he may live, that wicked person shall die for wrongdoing, but his blood I will require from your hand.

I passed by the field of a lazy one, And by the vineyard of a person lacking sense,And behold, it was completely overgrown with weeds; Its surface was covered with weeds, And its stone wall was broken down.When I saw, I reflected upon it; I looked, and received instruction.“ A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to rest,”Then your poverty will come like a drifter, And your need like an armed man.

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Since you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being My priest. Since you have forgotten the Law of your God, I also will forget your children.

“ Moreover, among the prophets of Samaria I saw an offensive thing: They prophesied by Baal and led My people Israel astray.Also among the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen a horrible thing: The committing of adultery and walking in deceit; And they strengthen the hands of evildoers, So that no one has turned back from his wickedness. All of them have become to Me like Sodom, And her inhabitants like Gomorrah.

Give no sleep to your eyes, Nor slumber to your eyelids;Save yourself like a gazelle from the hunter’s hand, And like a bird from the hand of the fowler.Go to the ant, you lazy one, Observe its ways and be wise,Which, having no chief, Officer, or ruler,Prepares its food in the summer And gathers its provision in the harvest.How long will you lie down, you lazy one? When will you arise from your sleep?“ A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to rest,”

“ Woe to you, blind guides, who say,‘ Whoever swears by the temple, that is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple is obligated.’You fools and blind men! Which is more important, the gold or the temple that sanctified the gold?And you say,‘ Whoever swears by the altar, that is nothing; but whoever swears by the offering that is on it is obligated.’You blind men, which is more important, the offering or the altar that sanctifies the offering?Therefore, the one who swears by the altar, swears both by the altar and by everything on it.And the one who swears by the temple, swears both by the temple and by Him who dwells in it.And the one who swears by heaven, swears both by the throne of God and by Him who sits upon it.“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier provisions of the Law: justice and mercy and faithfulness; but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others.You blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside they are full of robbery and self indulgence.You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the dish, so that the outside of it may also become clean.

Now He also spoke a parable to them:“ A person who is blind cannot guide another who is blind, can he? Will they not both fall into a pit?A student is not above the teacher; but everyone, when he has been fully trained, will be like his teacher.

“ For from the least of them to the greatest of them, Everyone is greedy for gain, And from the prophet to the priest Everyone deals falsely.They have healed the brokenness of My people superficially, Saying,‘ Peace, peace,’ But there is no peace.

It is like a man away on a journey, who upon leaving his house and putting his slaves in charge, assigning to each one his task, also commanded the doorkeeper to stay alert.Therefore, stay alert— for you do not know when the master of the house is coming, whether in the evening, at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning—so that he does not come suddenly and find you asleep.What I say to you I say to all:‘ Stay alert!’ ”

“ Arise, go to Nineveh, the great city, and cry out against it, because their wickedness has come up before Me.”But Jonah got up to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. So he went down to Joppa, found a ship that was going to Tarshish, paid the fare, and boarded it to go with them to Tarshish away from the presence of the Lord.However, the Lord hurled a great wind on the sea and there was a great storm on the sea, so that the ship was about to break up.Then the sailors became afraid and every man cried out to his god, and they hurled the cargo which was in the ship into the sea to lighten it for them. But Jonah had gone below into the stern of the ship, had lain down, and fallen sound asleep.So the captain approached him and said,“ How is it that you are sleeping? Get up, call on your god! Perhaps your god will be concerned about us so that we will not perish.”
