Israel’s watchmen are blind, they all lack knowledge; they are all mute dogs, they cannot bark; they lie around and dream, they love to sleep.

Israel’s prophets are blind. They don’t know the Lord. All of them are like watchdogs that can’t even bark. They just lie around and dream. They love to sleep.

His watchmen are blind; they are all without knowledge; they are all silent dogs; they cannot bark, dreaming, lying down, loving to slumber.

For the leaders of my people— the Lord’s watchmen, his shepherds— are blind and ignorant. They are like silent watchdogs that give no warning when danger comes. They love to lie around, sleeping and dreaming.

His watchmen are blind, All of them know nothing. All of them are mute dogs unable to bark, Dreamers lying down, who love to slumber;

His watchmen are blind, They are all ignorant; They are all dumb dogs, They cannot bark; Sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber.

His watchmen are blind, they are all without knowledge; they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; dreaming, lying down, loving to slumber.

All their watchmen are blind, they are unaware. All of them are like mute dogs, unable to bark. They pant, lie down, and love to snooze.

His watchmen are blind. They are all without knowledge. They are all mute dogs. They can’t bark— dreaming, lying down, loving to slumber.

Watch out for the dogs, watch out for the evil workers, watch out for those who mutilate the flesh.

For the LORD has poured out on you an overwhelming urge to sleep; he has shut your eyes( the prophets) and covered your heads( the seers).

Leave them alone! They are blind guides. And if the blind guide the blind, both will fall into a pit.”

The days of punishment have come; the days of retribution have come. Let Israel recognize it! The prophet is a fool, and the inspired man is insane, because of the magnitude of your iniquity and hostility.Ephraim’s watchman is with my God. Yet the prophet encounters a bird trap on all his pathways. Hostility is in the house of his God!

King of Assyria, your shepherds slumber; your officers sleep. Your people are scattered across the mountains with no one to gather them together.

those prophets of Israel who prophesied to Jerusalem and saw a vision of peace for her when there was no peace.” This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.’

“ Cry out loudly, don’t hold back! Raise your voice like a ram’s horn. Tell my people their transgression and the house of Jacob their sins.

And I replied,“ Oh no, Lord GOD! The prophets are telling them,‘ You won’t see sword or suffer famine. I will certainly give you lasting peace in this place.’”But the LORD said to me,“ These prophets are prophesying a lie in my name. I did not send them, nor did I command them or speak to them. They are prophesying to you a false vision, worthless divination, the deceit of their own minds.

The voices of your watchmen— they lift up their voices, shouting for joy together; for every eye will see when the LORD returns to Zion.

However, suppose the watchman sees the sword coming but doesn’t blow the ram’s horn, so that the people aren’t warned, and the sword comes and takes away their lives. Then they have been taken away because of their iniquity, but I will hold the watchman accountable for their blood.’

I will make your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth, and you will be mute and unable to be a mediator for them, for they are a rebellious house.But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you will say to them,‘ This is what the Lord GOD says.’ Let the one who listens, listen, and let the one who refuses, refuse— for they are a rebellious house.

I came to the exiles at Tel-abib, who were living by the Chebar Canal, and I sat there among them stunned for seven days.Now at the end of seven days the word of the LORD came to me:“ Son of man, I have made you a watchman over the house of Israel. When you hear a word from my mouth, give them a warning from me.If I say to the wicked person,‘ You will surely die,’ but you do not warn him— you don’t speak out to warn him about his wicked way in order to save his life— that wicked person will die for his iniquity. Yet I will hold you responsible for his blood.

I went by the field of a slacker and by the vineyard of one lacking sense.Thistles had come up everywhere, weeds covered the ground, and the stone wall was ruined.I saw, and took it to heart; I looked, and received instruction:a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the arms to rest,and your poverty will come like a robber, and your need, like a bandit.

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I will reject you from serving as my priest. Since you have forgotten the law of your God, I will also forget your sons.

Among the prophets of Samaria I saw something disgusting: They prophesied by Baal and led my people Israel astray.Among the prophets of Jerusalem also I saw a horrible thing: They commit adultery and walk in lies. They strengthen the hands of evildoers, and none turns his back on evil. They are all like Sodom to me; Jerusalem’s residents are like Gomorrah.

Don’t give sleep to your eyes or slumber to your eyelids.Escape like a gazelle from a hunter, like a bird from a hunter’s trap.Go to the ant, you slacker! Observe its ways and become wise.Without leader, administrator, or ruler,it prepares its provisions in summer; it gathers its food during harvest.How long will you stay in bed, you slacker? When will you get up from your sleep?A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the arms to rest,

“ Woe to you, blind guides, who say,‘ Whoever takes an oath by the temple, it means nothing. But whoever takes an oath by the gold of the temple is bound by his oath.’Blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctified the gold?Also,‘ Whoever takes an oath by the altar, it means nothing; but whoever takes an oath by the gift that is on it is bound by his oath.’Blind people! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift?Therefore, the one who takes an oath by the altar takes an oath by it and by everything on it.The one who takes an oath by the temple takes an oath by it and by him who dwells in it.And the one who takes an oath by heaven takes an oath by God’s throne and by him who sits on it.“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You pay a tenth of mint, dill, and cumin, and yet you have neglected the more important matters of the law— justice, mercy, and faithfulness. These things should have been done without neglecting the others.Blind guides! You strain out a gnat, but gulp down a camel!“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup, so that the outside of it may also become clean.

He also told them a parable:“ Can the blind guide the blind? Won’t they both fall into a pit?A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.

For from the least to the greatest of them, everyone is making profit dishonestly. From prophet to priest, everyone deals falsely.They have treated my people’s brokenness superficially, claiming,“ Peace, peace,” when there is no peace.

“ It is like a man on a journey, who left his house, gave authority to his servants, gave each one his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to be alert.Therefore be alert, since you don’t know when the master of the house is coming— whether in the evening or at midnight or at the crowing of the rooster or early in the morning.Otherwise, when he comes suddenly he might find you sleeping.And what I say to you, I say to everyone: Be alert!”

“ Get up! Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it because their evil has come up before me.”Jonah got up to flee to Tarshish from the LORD’s presence. He went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish. He paid the fare and went down into it to go with them to Tarshish from the LORD’s presence.But the LORD threw a great wind onto the sea, and such a great storm arose on the sea that the ship threatened to break apart.The sailors were afraid, and each cried out to his god. They threw the ship’s cargo into the sea to lighten the load. Meanwhile, Jonah had gone down to the lowest part of the vessel and had stretched out and fallen into a deep sleep.The captain approached him and said,“ What are you doing sound asleep? Get up! Call to your god. Maybe this god will consider us, and we won’t perish.”
