“ They sow the wind and reap the whirlwind. The stalk has no head; it will produce no flour. Were it to yield grain, foreigners would swallow it up.

I will satisfy the priests with abundance, and my people will be filled with my bounty,” declares the Lord.

“ My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.

Has not the Lord Almighty determined that the people’s labor is only fuel for the fire, that the nations exhaust themselves for nothing?

Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace, not by eating ceremonial foods, which is of no benefit to those who do so.

Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said,“ Listen to me, everyone, and understand this.

“ Hear me, you who know what is right, you people who have taken my instruction to heart: Do not fear the reproach of mere mortals or be terrified by their insults.

“ Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness and who seek the Lord: Look to the rock from which you were cut and to the quarry from which you were hewn;

I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

but the people of Israel, who pursued the law as the way of righteousness, have not attained their goal.

“ Come, eat my food and drink the wine I have mixed.

“ Then he sent some more servants and said,‘ Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner: My oxen and fattened cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.’

If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land;

They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.’”

They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights.

Some pour out gold from their bags and weigh out silver on the scales; they hire a goldsmith to make it into a god, and they bow down and worship it.

Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.

“ Listen to me, my people; hear me, my nation: Instruction will go out from me; my justice will become a light to the nations.

On this mountain the Lord Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine— the best of meats and the finest of wines.

So if you faithfully obey the commands I am giving you today— to love the Lord your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul—

Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.

“ Now then, my children, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways.

He said,“ If you listen carefully to the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you.”

Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate.

God gives some people wealth, possessions and honor, so that they lack nothing their hearts desire, but God does not grant them the ability to enjoy them, and strangers enjoy them instead. This is meaningless, a grievous evil.

Ephraim feeds on the wind; he pursues the east wind all day and multiplies lies and violence. He makes a treaty with Assyria and sends olive oil to Egypt.

till an arrow pierces his liver, like a bird darting into a snare, little knowing it will cost him his life.

So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs.He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.

but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.”

though I myself have reasons for such confidence. If someone else thinks they have reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more:circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee;as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for righteousness based on the law, faultless.But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ.

Such a person feeds on ashes; a deluded heart misleads him; he cannot save himself, or say,“ Is not this thing in my right hand a lie?”
