“ Afflicted city, lashed by storms and not comforted, I will rebuild you with stones of turquoise, your foundations with lapis lazuli.

“ Suffering city, you have been beaten by storms. You have not been comforted. I will rebuild you with turquoise stones. I will rebuild your foundations with lapis lazuli.

“ O storm battered city, troubled and desolate! I will rebuild you with precious jewels and make your foundations from lapis lazuli.

“ Poor Jerusalem, storm-tossed, and not comforted, I will set your stones in black mortar, and lay your foundations in lapis lazuli.

“ Afflicted one, storm tossed, and not comforted, Behold, I will set your stones in antimony, And I will lay your foundations with sapphires.

“ O you afflicted one, Tossed with tempest, and not comforted, Behold, I will lay your stones with colorful gems, And lay your foundations with sapphires.

O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will set thy stones in fair colors, and lay thy foundations with sapphires.

“ Poor Jerusalem, storm-tossed, and not comforted, I will set your stones in black mortar, and lay your foundations in sapphires.

O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest,[ and] not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colours, and lay thy foundations with sapphires.

“ O afflicted one, driven away, and unconsoled! Look, I am about to set your stones in antimony and I lay your foundation with lapis-lazuli.

“ You afflicted, tossed with storms, and not comforted, behold, I will set your stones in beautiful colors, and lay your foundations with sapphires.

As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious,you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.For it stands in Scripture:“ Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”

So I have provided for the house of my God, so far as I was able, the gold for the things of gold, the silver for the things of silver, and the bronze for the things of bronze, the iron for the things of iron, and wood for the things of wood, besides great quantities of onyx and stones for setting, antimony, colored stones, all sorts of precious stones and marble.

For I will restore health to you, and your wounds I will heal, declares the Lord, because they have called you an outcast:‘ It is Zion, for whom no one cares!’

Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy.When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world.So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.

But Zion said,“ The Lord has forsaken me; my Lord has forgotten me.”

Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.

And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep.

“ For these things I weep; my eyes flow with tears; for a comforter is far from me, one to revive my spirit; my children are desolate, for the enemy has prevailed.”Zion stretches out her hands, but there is none to comfort her; the Lord has commanded against Jacob that his neighbors should be his foes; Jerusalem has become a filthy thing among them.

In the twenty-fifth year of our exile, at the beginning of the year, on the tenth day of the month, in the fourteenth year after the city was struck down, on that very day, the hand of the Lord was upon me, and he brought me to the city.In visions of God he brought me to the land of Israel, and set me down on a very high mountain, on which was a structure like a city to the south.When he brought me there, behold, there was a man whose appearance was like bronze, with a linen cord and a measuring reed in his hand. And he was standing in the gateway.And the man said to me,“ Son of man, look with your eyes, and hear with your ears, and set your heart upon all that I shall show you, for you were brought here in order that I might show it to you. Declare all that you see to the house of Israel.”And behold, there was a wall all around the outside of the temple area, and the length of the measuring reed in the man’s hand was six long cubits, each being a cubit and a handbreadth in length. So he measured the thickness of the wall, one reed; and the height, one reed.Then he went into the gateway facing east, going up its steps, and measured the threshold of the gate, one reed deep.And the side rooms, one reed long and one reed broad; and the space between the side rooms, five cubits; and the threshold of the gate by the vestibule of the gate at the inner end, one reed.Then he measured the vestibule of the gateway, on the inside, one reed.Then he measured the vestibule of the gateway, eight cubits; and its jambs, two cubits; and the vestibule of the gate was at the inner end.And there were three side rooms on either side of the east gate. The three were of the same size, and the jambs on either side were of the same size.Then he measured the width of the opening of the gateway, ten cubits; and the length of the gateway, thirteen cubits.There was a barrier before the side rooms, one cubit on either side. And the side rooms were six cubits on either side.Then he measured the gate from the ceiling of the one side room to the ceiling of the other, a breadth of twenty-five cubits; the openings faced each other.He measured also the vestibule, sixty cubits. And around the vestibule of the gateway was the court.From the front of the gate at the entrance to the front of the inner vestibule of the gate was fifty cubits.And the gateway had windows all around, narrowing inwards toward the side rooms and toward their jambs, and likewise the vestibule had windows all around inside, and on the jambs were palm trees.Then he brought me into the outer court. And behold, there were chambers and a pavement, all around the court. Thirty chambers faced the pavement.And the pavement ran along the side of the gates, corresponding to the length of the gates. This was the lower pavement.Then he measured the distance from the inner front of the lower gate to the outer front of the inner court, a hundred cubits on the east side and on the north side.As for the gate that faced toward the north, belonging to the outer court, he measured its length and its breadth.Its side rooms, three on either side, and its jambs and its vestibule were of the same size as those of the first gate. Its length was fifty cubits, and its breadth twenty-five cubits.And its windows, its vestibule, and its palm trees were of the same size as those of the gate that faced toward the east. And by seven steps people would go up to it, and find its vestibule before them.And opposite the gate on the north, as on the east, was a gate to the inner court. And he measured from gate to gate, a hundred cubits.And he led me toward the south, and behold, there was a gate on the south. And he measured its jambs and its vestibule; they had the same size as the others.Both it and its vestibule had windows all around, like the windows of the others. Its length was fifty cubits, and its breadth twenty-five cubits.And there were seven steps leading up to it, and its vestibule was before them, and it had palm trees on its jambs, one on either side.And there was a gate on the south of the inner court. And he measured from gate to gate toward the south, a hundred cubits.Then he brought me to the inner court through the south gate, and he measured the south gate. It was of the same size as the others.Its side rooms, its jambs, and its vestibule were of the same size as the others, and both it and its vestibule had windows all around. Its length was fifty cubits, and its breadth twenty-five cubits.And there were vestibules all around, twenty-five cubits long and five cubits broad.Its vestibule faced the outer court, and palm trees were on its jambs, and its stairway had eight steps.Then he brought me to the inner court on the east side, and he measured the gate. It was of the same size as the others.Its side rooms, its jambs, and its vestibule were of the same size as the others, and both it and its vestibule had windows all around. Its length was fifty cubits, and its breadth twenty-five cubits.Its vestibule faced the outer court, and it had palm trees on its jambs, on either side, and its stairway had eight steps.Then he brought me to the north gate, and he measured it. It had the same size as the others.Its side rooms, its jambs, and its vestibule were of the same size as the others, and it had windows all around. Its length was fifty cubits, and its breadth twenty-five cubits.Its vestibule faced the outer court, and it had palm trees on its jambs, on either side, and its stairway had eight steps.There was a chamber with its door in the vestibule of the gate, where the burnt offering was to be washed.And in the vestibule of the gate were two tables on either side, on which the burnt offering and the sin offering and the guilt offering were to be slaughtered.And off to the side, on the outside as one goes up to the entrance of the north gate, were two tables; and off to the other side of the vestibule of the gate were two tables.Four tables were on either side of the gate, eight tables, on which to slaughter.And there were four tables of hewn stone for the burnt offering, a cubit and a half long, and a cubit and a half broad, and one cubit high, on which the instruments were to be laid with which the burnt offerings and the sacrifices were slaughtered.

And above the expanse over their heads there was the likeness of a throne, in appearance like sapphire; and seated above the likeness of a throne was a likeness with a human appearance.

Then my anger will be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them and hide my face from them, and they will be devoured. And many evils and troubles will come upon them, so that they will say in that day,‘ Have not these evils come upon us because our God is not among us?’

and I will put it into the hand of your tormentors, who have said to you,‘ Bow down, that we may pass over’; and you have made your back like the ground and like the street for them to pass over.”Awake, awake, put on your strength, O Zion; put on your beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city; for there shall no more come into you the uncircumcised and the unclean.Shake yourself from the dust and arise; be seated, O Jerusalem; loose the bonds from your neck, O captive daughter of Zion.For thus says the Lord:“ You were sold for nothing, and you shall be redeemed without money.”For thus says the Lord God:“ My people went down at the first into Egypt to sojourn there, and the Assyrian oppressed them for nothing.Now therefore what have I here,” declares the Lord,“ seeing that my people are taken away for nothing? Their rulers wail,” declares the Lord,“ and continually all the day my name is despised.

During those many days the king of Egypt died, and the people of Israel groaned because of their slavery and cried out for help. Their cry for rescue from slavery came up to God.

Then the Lord said,“ I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters. I know their sufferings,

For the Lord has called you like a wife deserted and grieved in spirit, like a wife of youth when she is cast off, says your God.

and they saw the God of Israel. There was under his feet as it were a pavement of sapphire stone, like the very heaven for clearness.

strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.

What will one answer the messengers of the nation?“ The Lord has founded Zion, and in her the afflicted of his people find refuge.”

How lonely sits the city that was full of people! How like a widow has she become, she who was great among the nations! She who was a princess among the provinces has become a slave.She weeps bitterly in the night, with tears on her cheeks; among all her lovers she has none to comfort her; all her friends have dealt treacherously with her; they have become her enemies.

“ Greatly have they afflicted me from my youth”— let Israel now say—“ Greatly have they afflicted me from my youth, yet they have not prevailed against me.The plowers plowed upon my back; they made long their furrows.”

And the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. He looked, and behold, the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed.

Therefore hear this, you who are afflicted, who are drunk, but not with wine:

You shall set in it four rows of stones. A row of sardius, topaz, and carbuncle shall be the first row;and the second row an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond;and the third row a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst;and the fourth row a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper. They shall be set in gold filigree.

The wall was built of jasper, while the city was pure gold, like clear glass.The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with every kind of jewel. The first was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald,the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst.And the twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of the gates made of a single pearl, and the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.

At the king’s command they quarried out great, costly stones in order to lay the foundation of the house with dressed stones.

Wake yourself, wake yourself, stand up, O Jerusalem, you who have drunk from the hand of the Lord the cup of his wrath, who have drunk to the dregs the bowl, the cup of staggering.There is none to guide her among all the sons she has borne; there is none to take her by the hand among all the sons she has brought up.These two things have happened to you— who will console you?— devastation and destruction, famine and sword; who will comfort you?

And they set in it four rows of stones. A row of sardius, topaz, and carbuncle was the first row;and the second row, an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond;and the third row, a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst;and the fourth row, a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper. They were enclosed in settings of gold filigree.There were twelve stones with their names according to the names of the sons of Israel. They were like signets, each engraved with its name, for the twelve tribes.

therefore thus says the Lord God,“ Behold, I am the one who has laid as a foundation in Zion, a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, of a sure foundation:‘ Whoever believes will not be in haste.’

And when the dragon saw that he had been thrown down to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child.But the woman was given the two wings of the great eagle so that she might fly from the serpent into the wilderness, to the place where she is to be nourished for a time, and times, and half a time.The serpent poured water like a river out of his mouth after the woman, to sweep her away with a flood.But the earth came to the help of the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed the river that the dragon had poured from his mouth.Then the dragon became furious with the woman and went off to make war on the rest of her offspring, on those who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus. And he stood on the sand of the sea.

built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone,

And I will grant authority to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth.”These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth.And if anyone would harm them, fire pours from their mouth and consumes their foes. If anyone would harm them, this is how he is doomed to be killed.They have the power to shut the sky, that no rain may fall during the days of their prophesying, and they have power over the waters to turn them into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague, as often as they desire.And when they have finished their testimony, the beast that rises from the bottomless pit will make war on them and conquer them and kill them,and their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city that symbolically is called Sodom and Egypt, where their Lord was crucified.For three and a half days some from the peoples and tribes and languages and nations will gaze at their dead bodies and refuse to let them be placed in a tomb,and those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them and make merry and exchange presents, because these two prophets had been a torment to those who dwell on the earth.

“ They heard my groaning, yet there is no one to comfort me. All my enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that you have done it. You have brought the day you announced; now let them be as I am.

Since we were violently storm-tossed, they began the next day to jettison the cargo.And on the third day they threw the ship’s tackle overboard with their own hands.When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope of our being saved was at last abandoned.

Whereas you have been forsaken and hated, with no one passing through, I will make you majestic forever, a joy from age to age.

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

His arms are rods of gold, set with jewels. His body is polished ivory, bedecked with sapphires.

Then I looked, and behold, on the expanse that was over the heads of the cherubim there appeared above them something like a sapphire, in appearance like a throne.
