祭司長就撕開衣裳說：『他說了僭妄的話了；我們還需要見證人麼？你看，如今你們聽見僭妄的話了；你們以為怎樣？』他們回答說：『他應該死。』

其中有一個人、那年做大祭司的該亞法、對他們說：『你們甚麼都不懂；也不想想、一個人替人民死，免得全民族都滅亡：這是於你們有益的啊。』這話他不是憑着自己說的，是因為那年他做大祭司，所以豫言耶穌將要替民族死；不單替民族死，並且要將上帝四散的兒女都聚集歸一呢。

故此我必將許多人分給他做業分，他必分得強盛的為擄掠物，因為他將自己傾倒至死；他被數算跟罪犯同列，卻是他擔當了許多人的罪，又為罪犯們代求。

哪知道是他為了我們的過犯而被刺透，為了我們的罪孽而被壓傷；那加於他身上的刑罰使我們得了安康；因他受的鞭傷、我們才得醫治。
