He was treated badly and made to suffer. But he didn’t open his mouth. He was led away like a lamb to be killed. Sheep are silent while their wool is being cut off. In the same way, he didn’t open his mouth.

This is the passage of Scripture the eunuch was reading:“ He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he did not open his mouth.In his humiliation he was deprived of justice. Who can speak of his descendants? For his life was taken from the earth.”

But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer. Again the high priest asked him,“ Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?”

When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.

When he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he gave no answer.Then Pilate asked him,“ Don’t you hear the testimony they are bringing against you?”But Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge— to the great amazement of the governor.

and he went back inside the palace.“ Where do you come from?” he asked Jesus, but Jesus gave him no answer.

He plied him with many questions, but Jesus gave him no answer.

But Jesus still made no reply, and Pilate was amazed.
