He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.

耶穌卻沉默不語。大祭司又對他說：「我命令你指著永生的神起誓，告訴我們你是不是基督——神的兒子？」

太監誦讀的那段經文是這樣的：「他像羊被牽去宰殺，又像羊羔在剪毛的人面前默默無聲，他也這樣不開口。他在屈辱中，公義被奪走了，誰能述說他的世代呢？因為他的生命從地上被奪走了。」

耶穌沉默不語，什麼也不回答。大祭司又問他，說：「你是基督——那當受頌讚者的兒子嗎？」

他被辱罵的時候，不還口；受苦害的時候，不說威嚇的話，而是把自己交託給以公義施行審判的那一位。

可是當他被祭司長們和長老們控告的時候，什麼都不回應。彼拉多對他說：「他們控告你這麼多的事，你沒有聽見嗎？」耶穌連一句話也不回答，以致總督感到非常驚奇。

又進了總督府，問耶穌：「你到底是從哪裡來的？」耶穌卻沒有回答他。

於是他問了耶穌許多話，但是耶穌什麼都不回答。

可是，耶穌仍然什麼也不回答，以致彼拉多感到驚奇。
