He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.

耶稣却沉默不语。大祭司又对他说：“我命令你指着永生的神起誓，告诉我们你是不是基督——神的儿子？”

太监诵读的那段经文是这样的：“他像羊被牵去宰杀，又像羊羔在剪毛的人面前默默无声，他也这样不开口。他在屈辱中，公义被夺走了，谁能述说他的世代呢？因为他的生命从地上被夺走了。”

耶稣沉默不语，什么也不回答。大祭司又问他，说：“你是基督——那当受颂赞者的儿子吗？”

他被辱骂的时候，不还口；受苦害的时候，不说威吓的话，而是把自己交托给以公义施行审判的那一位。

可是当他被祭司长们和长老们控告的时候，什么都不回应。彼拉多对他说：“他们控告你这么多的事，你没有听见吗？”耶稣连一句话也不回答，以致总督感到非常惊奇。

又进了总督府，问耶稣：“你到底是从哪里来的？”耶稣却没有回答他。

于是他问了耶稣许多话，但是耶稣什么都不回答。

可是，耶稣仍然什么也不回答，以致彼拉多感到惊奇。
