He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.

雖然他就是神本體的存在，卻不把與神同等看做是一件要強抓不放的事，反而倒空自己，取了奴僕的形像，成為人的樣式，以人的形態出現，

多人怎樣因他震驚——他的容貌被毀得不像人，他的形體被毀得不像人類——

從耶西的樹墩必發出一個嫩芽，從他的根而出的枝子必結果實。

他在這世界，世界也是藉著他而成的，世界卻不認識他。他來到自己的地方，自己的人卻不接受他。但是所有接受他的，就是信他名的人，他就賜給他們權柄成為神的兒女。他們不是由血緣、或肉體的意願、或人的意志所生的，而是由神所生的。道成了肉身，居住在我們中間。我們看到了他的榮耀，正是從父而來的獨生子的榮耀，充滿了恩典和真理。

耶穌告訴他們：「以利亞確實要先來恢復萬事。至於人子，經上怎麼還記載說，他必然受很多苦害，並且被人拒絕呢？

這不就是那木匠嗎？不就是瑪麗亞的兒子，雅各、約西、猶大和西門的哥哥嗎？他的妹妹們不也和我們在這裡嗎？」這樣，他們就對耶穌很反感。

那天是逾越節的預備日，大約在中午十二點，彼拉多對猶太人說：「看，你們的王！」他們就大聲喊叫：「除掉他！除掉他！把他釘上十字架！」彼拉多問：「我可以把你們的王釘上十字架嗎？」祭司長們回答：「除了凱撒，我們沒有王！」

耶穌對他說：「狐狸有洞，天空的飛鳥有窩，人子卻沒有枕頭的地方。」

這時候，耶穌出來了，他戴著荊棘冠冕，披著紫色袍子。彼拉多對他們說：「看，這個人！」

因肉體軟弱的緣故，律法所做不到的，神卻做到了——神派遣了自己的兒子成為罪的肉身樣式，並且為了贖罪，用肉身判決了罪，

他們就辱罵他，說：「你才是那個人的門徒！我們是摩西的門徒！我們知道神對摩西說過話，至於這個人，我們就不知道他是從哪裡來的！」

或是他所委派來懲惡賞善的那些官員；

對他說：『萬軍之耶和華如此說：看哪，那名字稱為「苗裔」的人，必從自己的地方長出，並要建造耶和華的聖殿；

他們就再次大聲喊叫說：「不要這個人！要巴拉巴！」這巴拉巴其實是個強盜。

約瑟和瑪麗亞按照主的律法辦完了一切事以後，就返回加利利，到自己的城拿撒勒去了。那孩子漸漸長大，剛強起來，充滿智慧，並且有神的恩典在他身上。

就生了她的頭胎兒子。她用布把他包起來放在馬槽裡，因為客店裡沒有地方給他們。

於是耶穌與他們一起下去，回到拿撒勒，一直服從他們。他的母親把這一切事都珍藏在心裡。耶穌的智慧和身量，以及神和人對他的喜愛，都不斷增長。
