The Lord says,“ When you were sold as slaves, no one paid anything for you. Now no one will pay any money to set you free.”

耶和华如此说：“你们是无价被卖的，也必无银被赎。

耶和华说：“你们被卖未得分文，你们被赎回也不需分文。”

因为耶和华如此说：“你们被卖既是无偿的，你们被赎也不用银钱。”

For this is what the Lord says:“ You were sold for nothing, and without money you will be redeemed.”

For thus says the Lord:“ You were sold for nothing, and you shall be redeemed without money.”

For this is what the Lord says:“ When I sold you into exile, I received no payment. Now I can redeem you without having to pay for you.”

For this is what the LORD says:“ You were sold for nothing, and you will be redeemed without silver.”

For thus says the Lord:“ You have sold yourselves for nothing, And you shall be redeemed without money.”

For thus saith Jehovah, Ye were sold for nought; and ye shall be redeemed without money.

For Yahweh says,“ You were sold for nothing; and you will be redeemed without money.”

You sold your people for very little. You didn’t gain anything when you sold them.

I will stir up Cyrus and help him win his battles. I will make all his roads straight. He will rebuild Jerusalem. My people have been taken away from their country. But he will set them free. I will not pay him to do it. He will not receive a reward for it,” says the Lord who rules over all.

You were set free from an empty way of life. This way of life was handed down to you by your own people of long ago. You know that you were not bought with things that can pass away, like silver or gold.

The Lord says to the people in Jerusalem,“ Do you think I divorced your people who lived before you? Is that why I sent them away? If it is, show me the letter of divorce. I did not sell you into slavery to pay someone I owe. You were sold because you sinned against me. Your people were sent away because of their lawless acts.

I will give away your wealth and your treasures. Your enemies will carry off everything. And they will not pay anything for it. That will happen because you have sinned so much. You have done it throughout your country.

We know that the law is holy. But I am not. I have been sold to be a slave of sin.I don’t understand what I do. I don’t do what I want to do. Instead, I do what I hate to do.I do what I don’t want to do. So I agree that the law is good.As it is, I am no longer the one who does these things. It is sin living in me that does them.I know there is nothing good in my desires controlled by sin. I want to do what is good, but I can’t.I don’t do the good things I want to do. I keep on doing the evil things I don’t want to do.I do what I don’t want to do. But I am not really the one who is doing it. It is sin living in me that does it.Here is the law I find working in me. When I want to do good, evil is right there with me.Deep inside me I find joy in God’s law.But I see another law working in me. It fights against the law of my mind. It makes me a prisoner of the law of sin. That law controls me.What a terrible failure I am! Who will save me from this sin that brings death to my body?I give thanks to God who saves me. He saves me through Jesus Christ our Lord. So in my mind I am a slave to God’s law. But sin controls my desires. So I am a slave to the law of sin.
