“ I, yes I, am the one who comforts you. So why are you afraid of mere humans, who wither like the grass and disappear?

『是我，我親自安慰你們的；你怎麼啦，你竟怕那會死的人，怕那生成如草的世人呀！

「我，是我安慰你們；你是誰，竟怕那必死的人，就是那被棄如草芥的世人；

主曰、慰藉爾者我也、爾何人斯、乃畏必死之世人、懼如草之人子、

耶和華曰、我慰藉爾、斯世之人、俱將淪亡、儗於草萊、何為畏之。

主曰、慰藉爾者惟我、惟我、爾為誰、竟懼必死之人、畏彼似草萊之世人、世人或作亞當之子

“ I, even I, am he who comforts you. Who are you that you fear mere mortals, human beings who are but grass,

The Lord says to his people,“ I comfort you because of who I am. Why are you afraid of mere human beings? They are like grass that dries up.

“ I, I am he who comforts you; who are you that you are afraid of man who dies, of the son of man who is made like grass,

I— I am the one who comforts you. Who are you that you should fear humans who die, or a son of man who is given up like grass?

“ I, I Myself, am He who comforts you. Who are you that you are afraid of mortal man, And of a son of man who is made like grass,

“ I, even I, am He who comforts you. Who are you that you should be afraid Of a man who will die, And of the son of a man who will be made like grass?

I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou art afraid of man that shall die, and of the son of man that shall be made as grass;

I— I am the One who comforts you. Who are you that you should fear man who dies, or a son of man who is given up like grass?

I,[ even] I,[ am] he that comforteth you: who[ art] thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man[ that] shall die, and of the son of man[ which] shall be made[ as] grass;

“ I, I am the one who consoles you. Why are you afraid of mortal men, of mere human beings who are as short-lived as grass?

“ I, even I, am he who comforts you. Who are you, that you are afraid of man who shall die, and of the son of man who will be made as grass?

The Lord is for me, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?

As the Scriptures say,“ People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in the field. The grass withers and the flower fades.

No, I will not abandon you as orphans— I will come to you.

But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative— that is, the Holy Spirit— he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.“ I am leaving you with a gift— peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

Don’t put your trust in mere humans. They are as frail as breath. What good are they?

I will comfort you there in Jerusalem as a mother comforts her child.”

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort.He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ.

The Lord will comfort Israel again and have pity on her ruins. Her desert will blossom like Eden, her barren wilderness like the garden of the Lord. Joy and gladness will be found there. Songs of thanksgiving will fill the air.

And those who are rich should boast that God has humbled them. They will fade away like a little flower in the field.The hot sun rises and the grass withers; the little flower droops and falls, and its beauty fades away. In the same way, the rich will fade away with all of their achievements.

When we arrived in Macedonia, there was no rest for us. We faced conflict from every direction, with battles on the outside and fear on the inside.But God, who encourages those who are discouraged, encouraged us by the arrival of Titus.

You sweep people away like dreams that disappear. They are like grass that springs up in the morning.In the morning it blooms and flourishes, but by evening it is dry and withered.

“ Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

“ I— yes, I alone— will blot out your sins for my own sake and will never think of them again.

Our days on earth are like grass; like wildflowers, we bloom and die.The wind blows, and we are gone— as though we had never been here.

“ Dear friends, don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot do any more to you after that.But I’ll tell you whom to fear. Fear God, who has the power to kill you and then throw you into hell. Yes, he’s the one to fear.

Many seek the ruler’s favor, but justice comes from the Lord.

“ Listen to me, you who know right from wrong, you who cherish my law in your hearts. Do not be afraid of people’s scorn, nor fear their insults.For the moth will devour them as it devours clothing. The worm will eat at them as it eats wool. But my righteousness will last forever. My salvation will continue from generation to generation.”

The high and lofty one who lives in eternity, the Holy One, says this:“ I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble. I restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts.For I will not fight against you forever; I will not always be angry. If I were, all people would pass away— all the souls I have made.I was angry, so I punished these greedy people. I withdrew from them, but they kept going on their own stubborn way.I have seen what they do, but I will heal them anyway! I will lead them. I will comfort those who mourn,

Though the wicked sprout like weeds and evildoers flourish, they will be destroyed forever.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied,“ O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you.If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty.But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.”

A voice said,“ Shout!” I asked,“ What should I shout?”“ Shout that people are like the grass. Their beauty fades as quickly as the flowers in a field.The grass withers and the flowers fade beneath the breath of the Lord. And so it is with people.

When they breathe their last, they return to the earth, and all their plans die with them.

The church then had peace throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria, and it became stronger as the believers lived in the fear of the Lord. And with the encouragement of the Holy Spirit, it also grew in numbers.
