For the vineyard of the LORD of Armies is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah, the plant he delighted in. He expected justice but saw injustice; he expected righteousness but heard cries of despair.

The vineyard of the Lord Almighty is the nation of Israel, and the people of Judah are the vines he delighted in. And he looked for justice, but saw bloodshed; for righteousness, but heard cries of distress.

The vineyard of the Lord who rules over all is the nation of Israel. The people of Judah are the vines he took delight in. He kept looking for them to do what is fair. But all he saw was blood being spilled. He kept looking for them to do what is right. But all he heard were cries of suffering.

For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah are his pleasant planting; and he looked for justice, but behold, bloodshed; for righteousness, but behold, an outcry!

The nation of Israel is the vineyard of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. The people of Judah are his pleasant garden. He expected a crop of justice, but instead he found oppression. He expected to find righteousness, but instead he heard cries of violence.

For the vineyard of the Lord of armies is the house of Israel, And the people of Judah are His delightful plant. So He waited for justice, but behold, there was bloodshed; For righteousness, but behold, a cry for help.

For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel, And the men of Judah are His pleasant plant. He looked for justice, but behold, oppression; For righteousness, but behold, a cry for help.

For the vineyard of Jehovah of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for justice, but, behold, oppression; for righteousness, but, behold, a cry.

Indeed Israel is the vineyard of the LORD who commands armies, the people of Judah are the cultivated place in which he took delight. He waited for justice, but look what he got– disobedience! He waited for fairness, but look what he got– cries for help!

For the vineyard of Yahweh of Armies is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for justice, but, behold, oppression; for righteousness, but, behold, a cry of distress.

You dug up a vine from Egypt; you drove out the nations and planted it.You cleared a place for it; it took root and filled the land.The mountains were covered by its shade, and the mighty cedars with its branches.It sent out sprouts toward the Sea and shoots toward the River.

Therefore produce fruit consistent with repentance.And don’t presume to say to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones.The ax is already at the root of the trees. Therefore, every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

The LORD brings this charge against the elders and leaders of his people:“ You have devastated the vineyard. The plunder from the poor is in your houses.

the Lord will put scabs on the heads of the daughters of Zion, and the LORD will shave their foreheads bare.

“ The LORD of Armies says this:‘ Make fair decisions. Show faithful love and compassion to one another.Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the resident alien or the poor, and do not plot evil in your hearts against one another.’But they refused to pay attention and turned a stubborn shoulder; they closed their ears so they could not hear.They made their hearts like a rock so as not to obey the law or the words that the LORD of Armies had sent by his Spirit through the earlier prophets. Therefore intense anger came from the LORD of Armies.Just as he had called, and they would not listen, so when they called, I would not listen, says the LORD of Armies.I scattered them with a windstorm over all the nations that had not known them, and the land was left desolate behind them, with no one coming or going. They turned a pleasant land into a desolation.”

For the LORD takes pleasure in his people; he adorns the humble with salvation.

The LORD values those who fear him, those who put their hope in his faithful love.

Many shepherds have destroyed my vineyard; they have trampled my plot of land. They have turned my desirable plot into a desolate wasteland.

How beautiful you are and how pleasant, my love, with such delights!

Will not God grant justice to his elect who cry out to him day and night? Will he delay helping them?

Look! The pay that you withheld from the workers who mowed your fields cries out, and the outcry of the harvesters has reached the ears of the Lord of Armies.

Instead, you yourselves do wrong and cheat— and you do this to brothers and sisters!Don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be deceived: No sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers, or males who have sex with males,no thieves, greedy people, drunkards, verbally abusive people, or swindlers will inherit God’s kingdom.And some of you used to be like this. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Mankind, he has told each of you what is good and what it is the LORD requires of you: to act justly, to love faithfulness, and to walk humbly with your God.

From the sole of the foot even to the head, no spot is uninjured— wounds, welts, and festering sores not cleansed, bandaged, or soothed with oil.

The one who shuts his ears to the cry of the poor will himself also call out and not be answered.

For as a young man marries a young woman, so your sons will marry you; and as a groom rejoices over his bride, so your God will rejoice over you.

The LORD your God is among you, a warrior who saves. He will rejoice over you with gladness. He will be quiet in his love. He will delight in you with singing.”

He broke up the soil, cleared it of stones, and planted it with the finest vines. He built a tower in the middle of it and even dug out a winepress there. He expected it to yield good grapes, but it yielded worthless grapes.

“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You pay a tenth of mint, dill, and cumin, and yet you have neglected the more important matters of the law— justice, mercy, and faithfulness. These things should have been done without neglecting the others.

There was a widespread outcry from the people and their wives against their Jewish countrymen.Some were saying,“ We, our sons, and our daughters are numerous. Let us get grain so that we can eat and live.”Others were saying,“ We are mortgaging our fields, vineyards, and homes to get grain during the famine.”Still others were saying,“ We have borrowed money to pay the king’s tax on our fields and vineyards.We and our children are just like our countrymen and their children, yet we are subjecting our sons and daughters to slavery. Some of our daughters are already enslaved, but we are powerless because our fields and vineyards belong to others.”

Then he said,“ What have you done? Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground!

“ You must not exploit a resident alien or oppress him, since you were resident aliens in the land of Egypt.“ You must not mistreat any widow or fatherless child.If you do mistreat them, they will no doubt cry to me, and I will certainly hear their cry.My anger will burn, and I will kill you with the sword; then your wives will be widows and your children fatherless.“ If you lend silver to my people, to the poor person among you, you must not be like a creditor to him; you must not charge him interest.“ If you ever take your neighbor’s cloak as collateral, return it to him before sunset.For it is his only covering; it is the clothing for his body. What will he sleep in? And if he cries out to me, I will listen because I am gracious.

Be careful that there isn’t this wicked thought in your heart,‘ The seventh year, the year of canceling debts, is near,’ and you are stingy toward your poor brother and give him nothing. He will cry out to the LORD against you, and you will be guilty.

Every branch in me that does not produce fruit he removes, and he prunes every branch that produces fruit so that it will produce more fruit.

Then the LORD said,“ I have observed the misery of my people in Egypt, and have heard them crying out because of their oppressors. I know about their sufferings,

After a long time, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites groaned because of their difficult labor, they cried out, and their cry for help because of the difficult labor ascended to God.God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

but caused the poor to cry out to him, and he heard the outcry of the needy.

If my land cries out against me and its furrows join in weeping,if I have consumed its produce without payment or shown contempt for its tenants,

the root your right hand planted, the son that you made strong for yourself.

Isn’t this the fast I choose: To break the chains of wickedness, to untie the ropes of the yoke, to set the oppressed free, and to tear off every yoke?Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, to bring the poor and homeless into your house, to clothe the naked when you see him, and not to ignore your own flesh and blood?Then your light will appear like the dawn, and your recovery will come quickly. Your righteousness will go before you, and the LORD’s glory will be your rear guard.
