「那時，凡種一千棵葡萄樹、價值一千銀子的地方，必長出荊棘和蒺藜。人到那裏去，必帶弓箭，因為遍地長滿了荊棘和蒺藜。所有鋤頭刨過的山地，你因懼怕荊棘和蒺藜，不敢到那裏去；只能作放牛之處，羊羣踐踏之地。」

迦勒底人焚燒了神的殿，拆毀耶路撒冷的城牆，用火燒了城裏所有的宮殿，毀壞了城裏一切寶貴的器皿。凡脫離刀劍的倖存者，迦勒底王都擄到巴比倫去，作他和他子孫的僕婢，直到波斯國興起。這就應驗耶和華藉耶利米的口所說的話：地得享安息；在荒涼的日子，地就守安息，直到滿了七十年。

看哪，耶和華使地空虛，變為荒蕪，地面扭曲，居民四散。那時，百姓如何，祭司也如何；僕人如何，主人也如何；婢女如何，主母也如何；買主如何，賣主也如何；放債的如何，借貸的也如何；債主如何，欠債的也如何。地必全然空虛，盡都荒蕪，因為這話是耶和華說的。

這全地必然荒涼，令人驚駭。這些國家要服事巴比倫王七十年。

你撒種在地裏，主必降雨在其上，使地所出的糧食肥美豐盛。那時，你的牲畜必在遼闊的草場吃草。

你頭上的天要變成銅，下面的地要化為鐵。耶和華要使那降在你地上的雨變為灰塵，塵土從天落在你身上，直到你被除滅。

城裏盡是荒涼，城門全都摧毀。

外邦虛無的神明中有能降雨的嗎？天能自降甘霖嗎？耶和華－我們的神啊，不是你嗎？我們要等候你，因為這一切都是你所造的。

我就說：「主啊，這到幾時為止呢？」他說：「直到城鎮荒涼，無人居住，房屋空無一人，土地極其荒蕪；耶和華將人遷到遠方，國內被撇棄的土地很多。

刺草和荊棘要長在我百姓的田地上，長在歡樂城中一切快樂家園上。宮殿必被撇下，繁華的城必被拋棄，堡壘和瞭望樓永為洞穴，成為野驢的樂土，羊羣的草場。

因為以色列人必多日過着無君王，無領袖，無祭祀，無柱像，無以弗得，無家中神像的生活。

住在基列的提斯比人以利亞對亞哈說：「我指着所事奉永生的耶和華－以色列的神起誓，這幾年我若不禱告，必不降露水，也不下雨。」

遍地都被硫磺和鹽所侵蝕，不能耕種，沒有出產，連草都長不出來，好像耶和華在怒氣和憤怒中所傾覆的所多瑪、蛾摩拉、押瑪、洗扁一樣，

他們要倒在刀下，又被擄到各國去。耶路撒冷要被外邦人踐踏，直到外邦人的日子滿了。」

上來攻擊耶路撒冷的列國中所有剩下的人，要年年上來敬拜大君王－萬軍之耶和華，並守住棚節。地上萬族中，凡不上耶路撒冷敬拜大君王－萬軍之耶和華的，雨必不降在他們的地上。

耶和華的話臨到耶利米，論到旱災的事：

你要這樣告訴他，耶和華如此說：看哪，我所建立的，我必拆毀；我所栽植的，我必拔出；在全地我都如此行。

「在收割的前三個月，我不降雨在你們那裏，我降雨在這城，不降雨在那城；這塊地有雨，那塊無雨的地就必枯乾。

這二人有權柄關閉天空，使他們說預言的日子不下雨；又有權柄使水變為血，並且能隨時隨意用各樣的災害擊打大地。

我要把你們驅散到列國中，也要拔刀追趕你們。你們的地要成為荒涼，你們的城鎮要變成廢墟。「當你們在敵人之地的時候，你們的地要在一切荒涼的日子重享安息；在那時候，地要休息，重享安息。地在一切荒涼的日子都要安息，這是你們住在其上的時候所不能得的安息。

我耳聞萬軍之耶和華說：「許多房屋必然荒廢；宏偉華麗，無人居住。十畝的葡萄園只釀出一罷特的酒，一賀梅珥的穀種只結一伊法糧食。」
