“从前，凡种一千棵葡萄树、值银一千舍客勒的地方，到那时必长荆棘和蒺藜。人上那里去，必带弓箭，因为遍地满了荆棘和蒺藜。所有用锄刨挖的山地，你因怕荆棘和蒺藜，不敢上那里去；只可成了放牛之处，为羊践踏之地。”

迦勒底人焚烧神的殿，拆毁耶路撒冷的城墙，用火烧了城里的宫殿，毁坏了城里宝贵的器皿。凡脱离刀剑的，迦勒底王都掳到巴比伦去，作他和他子孙的仆婢，直到波斯国兴起来。这就应验耶和华藉耶利米口所说的话：地享受安息；因为地土荒凉便守安息，直满了七十年。

看哪，耶和华使地空虚，变为荒凉；又翻转大地，将居民分散。那时百姓怎样，祭司也怎样；仆人怎样，主人也怎样；婢女怎样，主母也怎样；买物的怎样，卖物的也怎样；放债的怎样，借债的也怎样；取利的怎样，出利的也怎样。地必全然空虚，尽都荒凉；因为这话是耶和华说的。

这全地必然荒凉，令人惊骇。这些国民要服侍巴比伦王七十年。

你将种子撒在地里，主必降雨在其上，并使地所出的粮肥美丰盛。到那时，你的牲畜必在宽阔的草场吃草。

你头上的天要变为铜，脚下的地要变为铁。耶和华要使那降在你地上的雨变为尘沙，从天临在你身上，直到你灭亡。

城中只有荒凉；城门拆毁净尽。

外邦人虚无的神中有能降雨的吗？天能自降甘霖吗？耶和华我们的神啊，能如此的不是你吗？所以，我们仍要等候你，因为这一切都是你所造的。

若是离弃道理，就不能叫他们从新懊悔了。因为他们把神的儿子重钉十字架，明明地羞辱他。就如一块田地，吃过屡次下的雨水，生长菜蔬，合乎耕种的人用，就从神得福；若长荆棘和蒺藜，必被废弃，近于咒诅，结局就是焚烧。

我就说：“主啊，这到几时为止呢？”他说：“直到城邑荒凉，无人居住，房屋空闲无人，地土极其荒凉。并且耶和华将人迁到远方，在这境内撇下的地土很多。

荆棘蒺藜必长在我百姓的地上，又长在欢乐的城中和一切快乐的房屋上。因为宫殿必被撇下，多民的城必被离弃；山冈望楼永为洞穴，作野驴所喜乐的，为羊群的草场。

以色列人也必多日独居，无君王，无首领，无祭祀，无柱像，无以弗得，无家中的神像。

基列寄居的提斯比人以利亚对亚哈说：“我指着所侍奉永生耶和华以色列的神起誓，这几年我若不祷告，必不降露，不下雨。”

又看见遍地有硫磺，有盐卤，有火迹，没有耕种，没有出产，连草都不生长，好像耶和华在忿怒中所倾覆的所多玛、蛾摩拉、押玛、洗扁一样。

他们要倒在刀下，又被掳到各国去。耶路撒冷要被外邦人践踏，直到外邦人的日期满了。”

所有来攻击耶路撒冷列国中剩下的人，必年年上来敬拜大君王万军之耶和华，并守住棚节。地上万族中，凡不上耶路撒冷敬拜大君王万军之耶和华的，必无雨降在他们的地上。

耶和华论到干旱之灾的话临到耶利米：

你要这样告诉他，耶和华如此说：我所建立的，我必拆毁；我所栽植的，我必拔出；在全地我都如此行。

“在收割的前三月，我使雨停止，不降在你们那里；我降雨在这城，不降雨在那城；这块地有雨，那块地无雨；无雨的就枯干了。

这二人有权柄，在他们传道的日子叫天闭塞不下雨；又有权柄叫水变为血，并且能随时随意用各样的灾殃攻击世界。

我要把你们散在列邦中；我也要拔刀追赶你们。你们的地要成为荒场；你们的城邑要变为荒凉。“你们在仇敌之地居住的时候，你们的地荒凉，要享受众安息；正在那时候，地要歇息，享受安息。地多时为荒场，就要多时歇息；地这样歇息，是你们住在其上的安息年所不能得的。

我耳闻万军之耶和华说：“必有许多又大又美的房屋成为荒凉，无人居住。三十亩葡萄园只出一罢特酒；一贺梅珥谷种只结一伊法粮食。”
