“ Now you dwellers in Jerusalem and people of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard.

So the Lord said,“ People of Jerusalem and Judah, you be the judge between me and my vineyard.

And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard.

So now, residents of Jerusalem and men of Judah, please judge between me and my vineyard.

“ And now, you inhabitants of Jerusalem and people of Judah, Judge between Me and My vineyard.

“ And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, Judge, please, between Me and My vineyard.

And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, betwixt me and my vineyard.

So now, residents of Jerusalem and men of Judah, please judge between Me and My vineyard.

And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem, and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, betwixt me and my vineyard.

So now, residents of Jerusalem, people of Judah, you decide between me and my vineyard!

“ Now, inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, please judge between me and my vineyard.

But because you are stubborn and refuse to turn from your sin, you are storing up terrible punishment for yourself. For a day of anger is coming, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.

“ What do you suppose the owner of the vineyard will do?” Jesus asked.“ I’ll tell you— he will come and kill those farmers and lease the vineyard to others.Didn’t you ever read this in the Scriptures?‘ The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.This is the Lord’s doing, and it is wonderful to see.’”The religious leaders wanted to arrest Jesus because they realized he was telling the story against them— they were the wicked farmers. But they were afraid of the crowd, so they left him and went away.

He calls on the heavens above and earth below to witness the judgment of his people.“ Bring my faithful people to me— those who made a covenant with me by giving sacrifices.”Then let the heavens proclaim his justice, for God himself will be the judge. Interlude

Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. You will be proved right in what you say, and your judgment against me is just.

And now, O mountains, listen to the Lord’s complaint! He has a case against his people. He will bring charges against Israel.“ O my people, what have I done to you? What have I done to make you tired of me? Answer me!

Of course not! Even if everyone else is a liar, God is true. As the Scriptures say about him,“ You will be proved right in what you say, and you will win your case in court.”

“ When the owner of the vineyard returns,” Jesus asked,“ what do you think he will do to those farmers?”The religious leaders replied,“ He will put the wicked men to a horrible death and lease the vineyard to others who will give him his share of the crop after each harvest.”

So they dragged him out of the vineyard and murdered him.“ What do you suppose the owner of the vineyard will do to them?” Jesus asked.“ I’ll tell you— he will come and kill those farmers and lease the vineyard to others.”“ How terrible that such a thing should ever happen,” his listeners protested.

Listen to the word of the Lord, people of Jacob— all you families of Israel!This is what the Lord says:“ What did your ancestors find wrong with me that led them to stray so far from me? They worshiped worthless idols, only to become worthless themselves.
