Woe to those who draw iniquity with cords of falsehood, and wickedness as with cart rope,

祸哉！那些以虚假之细绳牵罪孽的人！他们又像以套绳拉罪恶，

祸哉！那些以虚假的绳子牵引罪孽，以套车的绳索紧拉罪恶的人。

祸哉！那些以虚假的绳子牵引罪孽，以套车的绳索紧拉罪恶的人。

那些用虚假作绳子扯来罪恶，用套绳拉来邪恶的人有祸了！

那些人虚假的绳索牵引罪孽，又像用车绳拉罪恶的人，有祸了！

祸哉！他们那样的人！他们用虚谎之绳牵拉罪孽、牵拉罪恶，就像用套车之绳一样。

禍哉！那些以虛假之細繩牽罪孽的人！他們又像以套繩拉罪惡，

禍哉！那些以虛假的繩子牽引罪孽，以套車的繩索緊拉罪惡的人。

禍哉！那些以虛假的繩子牽引罪孽，以套車的繩索緊拉罪惡的人。

那些用虛假作繩子扯來罪惡，用套繩拉來邪惡的人有禍了！

那些人虛假的繩索牽引罪孽，又像用車繩拉罪惡的人，有禍了！

有禍啊，那些以虛謊的繩索牽引着罪罰，像以套車粗繩拉罪之報應的人；

禍哉！他們那樣的人！他們用虛謊之繩牽拉罪孽、牽拉罪惡，就像用套車之繩一樣。

以虛偽為繩引邪惡、如以曳車之索牽罪戾、禍哉其人、

人行惡而取戾、若以索曳車、其有禍乎、

禍哉斯人、以惡為索、牽引災罰、亦如以曳車之巨繩、牽引罪報、

Woe to those who draw sin along with cords of deceit, and wickedness as with cart ropes,

How terrible it will be for those who continue to sin and lie about it! How terrible for those who keep on doing what is evil as if they were tied to it!

Woe to those who draw iniquity with cords of falsehood, who draw sin as with cart ropes,

What sorrow for those who drag their sins behind them with ropes made of lies, who drag wickedness behind them like a cart!

Woe to those who drag iniquity with cords of deceit and pull sin along with cart ropes,

Woe to those who drag wrongdoing with the cords of deceit, And sin as if with cart ropes;

Woe to those who draw iniquity with cords of vanity, And sin as if with a cart rope;

Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of falsehood, and sin as it were with a cart rope;

Woe to those who drag wickedness with cords of deceit and pull sin along with cart ropes,

Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope:

Those who pull evil along using cords of emptiness are as good as dead, who pull sin as with cart ropes.

In the prophets of Jerusalem I have also seen a horrible thing: they commit adultery and walk in lies. They strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one returns from his wickedness. They have all become to me as Sodom, and its inhabitants as Gomorrah.”

For the land is full of adulterers; for because of the curse the land mourns. The pastures of the wilderness have dried up. Their course is evil, and their might is not right;

The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule by their own authority; and my people love to have it so. What will you do in the end of it?

They will put you out of the synagogues. Yes, the time comes that whoever kills you will think that he offers service to God.

“‘ Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying,“ Peace;” and there is no peace. When one builds up a wall, behold, they plaster it with whitewash.Tell those who plaster it with whitewash that it will fall. There will be an overflowing shower; and you, great hailstones, will fall. A stormy wind will tear it.

For he flatters himself in his own eyes, too much to detect and hate his sin.

“ I myself most certainly thought that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth.

The man Micah had a house of gods, and he made an ephod, and teraphim, and consecrated one of his sons, who became his priest.

They break your people in pieces, Yahweh, and afflict your heritage.They kill the widow and the alien, and murder the fatherless.They say,“ Yah will not see, neither will Jacob’s God consider.”Consider, you senseless among the people; you fools, when will you be wise?He who implanted the ear, won’t he hear? He who formed the eye, won’t he see?He who disciplines the nations, won’t he punish? He who teaches man knows.Yahweh knows the thoughts of man, that they are futile.

It will happen at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and I will punish the men who are settled on their dregs, who say in their heart,“ Yahweh will not do good, neither will he do evil.”

He says in his heart,“ God has forgotten. He hides his face. He will never see it.”

Why then have the people of Jerusalem fallen back by a perpetual backsliding? They cling to deceit. They refuse to return.I listened and heard, but they didn’t say what is right. No one repents of his wickedness, saying,“ What have I done?” Everyone turns to his course, as a horse that rushes headlong in the battle.Yes, the stork in the sky knows her appointed times. The turtledove, the swallow, and the crane observe the time of their coming; but my people don’t know Yahweh’s law.“‘ How do you say,“ We are wise, and Yahweh’s law is with us?” But, behold, the false pen of the scribes has worked falsely.The wise men are disappointed. They are dismayed and trapped. Behold, they have rejected Yahweh’s word. What kind of wisdom is in them?

Then Absalom said to Ahithophel,“ Give your counsel what we shall do.”Ahithophel said to Absalom,“ Go in to your father’s concubines that he has left to keep the house. Then all Israel will hear that you are abhorred by your father. Then the hands of all who are with you will be strong.”So they spread a tent for Absalom on the top of the house, and Absalom went in to his father’s concubines in the sight of all Israel.The counsel of Ahithophel, which he gave in those days, was as if a man inquired at the inner sanctuary of God. All the counsel of Ahithophel both was like this with David and with Absalom.

Then all the men who knew that their wives burned incense to other gods, and all the women who stood by, a great assembly, even all the people who lived in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying,“ As for the word that you have spoken to us in Yahweh’s name, we will not listen to you.But we will certainly perform every word that has gone out of our mouth, to burn incense to the queen of the sky, and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our kings and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem; for then had we plenty of food, and were well, and saw no evil.But since we stopped burning incense to the queen of the sky, and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have lacked all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine.“ When we burned incense to the queen of the sky, and poured out drink offerings to her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings to her, without our husbands?”

Then Micah said,“ Now I know that Yahweh will do good to me, since I have a Levite as my priest.”

Can anyone hide himself in secret places so that I can’t see him?” says Yahweh.“ Don’t I fill heaven and earth?” says Yahweh.

The fool has said in his heart,“ There is no God.” They are corrupt. They have done abominable deeds. There is no one who does good.

Because with lies you have grieved the heart of the righteous, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, and be saved alive.

No one sues in righteousness, and no one pleads in truth. They trust in vanity, and speak lies. They conceive mischief, and give birth to iniquity.They hatch adders’ eggs, and weave the spider’s web. He who eats of their eggs dies; and that which is crushed breaks out into a viper.Their webs won’t become garments. They won’t cover themselves with their works. Their works are works of iniquity, and acts of violence are in their hands.Their feet run to evil, and they hurry to shed innocent blood. Their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity. Desolation and destruction are in their paths.They don’t know the way of peace; and there is no justice in their ways. They have made crooked paths for themselves; whoever goes in them doesn’t know peace.

Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet,“ Listen, Hananiah! Yahweh has not sent you, but you make this people trust in a lie.Therefore Yahweh says,‘ Behold, I will send you away from off the surface of the earth. This year you will die, because you have spoken rebellion against Yahweh.’”

“ Because you have said,‘ We have made a covenant with death, and we are in agreement with Sheol. When the overflowing scourge passes through, it won’t come to us; for we have made lies our refuge, and we have hidden ourselves under falsehood.’”
