Therefore Death expands its jaws, opening wide its mouth; into it will descend their nobles and masses with all their brawlers and revelers.

The grave is licking its lips in anticipation, opening its mouth wide. The great and the lowly and all the drunken mob will be swallowed up.

Therefore Sheol enlarges its throat and opens wide its enormous jaws, and down go Zion’s dignitaries, her masses, her crowds, and those who celebrate in her!

Therefore Sheol has enlarged its throat and opened its mouth beyond measure; And Jerusalem’s splendor, her multitude, her noise of revelry, and the jubilant within her, descend into it.

維彼敵人、沉湎於酒者、廉恥道喪、居心粗浮者、遨遊遠方、貪欲無藝、若陰司暗府、無日充盈焉、彼使邦國、咸歸統轄、

自當謹慎、勿以饜飫沉湎、世之憧擾累心、恐其日突然臨爾、

陰府震動、待爾速下、幽冥之眾、莫不騷然、昔居民上、為國之王者、見爾臨格、離座而起、

今彼第宅、惡人充盈、願彼速亡、墮於幽冥。

有貧者名拉撒路、生瘍、人置富者之門、欲以富人几下遺屑飽己、犬來舐其瘍、貧者死、天使扶置亞伯拉罕懷、富人亦死而葬、陰間痛苦之際、舉目遙見亞伯拉罕、懷中有拉撒路、

倘耶和華行事維新、使地口翕張、吞噬其眾、生墮坎阱、則其人之欺悔耶和華、由此可見矣。言竟、土壤盡裂。地口翕張、吞噬哥喇徒黨、與其眷聚什物、暨凡所有、俱生陷於坎阱、為地所覆、絕於會中、以色列族、在於四周、聞聲而遁、曰、恐我儕亦為地所吞。

彼猶生存、害之至死、如塚中尸僵、弗能動也。

我心昏迷、戰栗特甚、深宵宴樂、忽變駭懼、

當進窄門、引而之死、其門也闊、其路也寛、入之者多、

乃自謂曰、我有多物、積為歷年之用、此心可安然飲食喜樂也、上帝曰、無知者乎、今夜將索爾魂、則所備者誰歸、

敵沉湎於酒、若荊棘叢雜、乾燥易焚。
