But the city of Zion said,“ The Lord has deserted me. The Lord has forgotten me.”

But Zion said,“ The Lord has forsaken me; my Lord has forgotten me.”

Yet Jerusalem says,“ The Lord has deserted us; the Lord has forgotten us.”

Zion says,“ The LORD has abandoned me; the Lord has forgotten me!”

But Zion said,“ The Lord has abandoned me, And the Lord has forgotten me.”

But Zion said,“ The Lord has forsaken me, And my Lord has forgotten me.”

But Zion said, Jehovah hath forsaken me, and the Lord hath forgotten me.

Zion says,“ The Lord has abandoned me; The Lord has forgotten me!”

But Zion said, The LORD hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me.

“ Zion said,‘ The LORD has abandoned me, the sovereign master has forgotten me.’

But Zion said,“ Yahweh has forsaken me, and the Lord has forgotten me.”

Why do you complain, Jacob? Why do you say, Israel,“ My way is hidden from the Lord; my cause is disregarded by my God”?

But you have rejected, you have spurned, you have been very angry with your anointed one.You have renounced the covenant with your servant and have defiled his crown in the dust.You have broken through all his walls and reduced his strongholds to ruins.All who pass by have plundered him; he has become the scorn of his neighbors.You have exalted the right hand of his foes; you have made all his enemies rejoice.Indeed, you have turned back the edge of his sword and have not supported him in battle.You have put an end to his splendor and cast his throne to the ground.You have cut short the days of his youth; you have covered him with a mantle of shame.How long, Lord? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your wrath burn like fire?

Why do you always forget us? Why do you forsake us so long?

How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?

In my alarm I said,“ I am cut off from your sight!” Yet you heard my cry for mercy when I called to you for help.

I remembered my songs in the night. My heart meditated and my spirit asked:“ Will the Lord reject forever? Will he never show his favor again?Has his unfailing love vanished forever? Has his promise failed for all time?Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?”

Therefore, I will surely forget you and cast you out of my presence along with the city I gave to you and your ancestors.

I ask then: Did God reject his people? By no means! I am an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin.God did not reject his people, whom he foreknew. Don’t you know what Scripture says in the passage about Elijah— how he appealed to God against Israel:“ Lord, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars; I am the only one left, and they are trying to kill me”?And what was God’s answer to him?“ I have reserved for myself seven thousand who have not bowed the knee to Baal.”So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace.

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish?
