You have neither heard nor understood; from of old your ears have not been open. Well do I know how treacherous you are; you were called a rebel from birth.

You have not heard or understood what I said. Your ears have been plugged up for a long time. I knew very well that you would turn against me. From the day you were born, you have refused to obey me.

“ Yes, I will tell you of things that are entirely new, things you never heard of before. For I know so well what traitors you are. You have been rebels from birth.

The wicked are estranged from the womb; They go astray as soon as they are born, speaking lies.

For the Lord has poured out on you The spirit of deep sleep, And has closed your eyes, namely, the prophets; And He has covered your heads, namely, the seers.The whole vision has become to you like the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one who is literate, saying,“ Read this, please.” And he says,“ I cannot, for it is sealed.”

“ Remember! Do not forget how you provoked the Lord your God to wrath in the wilderness. From the day that you departed from the land of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against the Lord.Also in Horeb you provoked the Lord to wrath, so that the Lord was angry enough with you to have destroyed you.When I went up into the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant which the Lord made with you, then I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water.Then the Lord delivered to me two tablets of stone written with the finger of God, and on them were all the words which the Lord had spoken to you on the mountain from the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly.And it came to pass, at the end of forty days and forty nights, that the Lord gave me the two tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant.“ Then the Lord said to me,‘ Arise, go down quickly from here, for your people whom you brought out of Egypt have acted corruptly; they have quickly turned aside from the way which I commanded them; they have made themselves a molded image.’“ Furthermore the Lord spoke to me, saying,‘ I have seen this people, and indeed they are a stiff-necked people.Let Me alone, that I may destroy them and blot out their name from under heaven; and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.’“ So I turned and came down from the mountain, and the mountain burned with fire; and the two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands.And I looked, and behold, you had sinned against the Lord your God— had made for yourselves a molded calf! But the Lord listened to me at that time also.And the Lord was very angry with Aaron and would have destroyed him; so I prayed for Aaron also at the same time.Then I took your sin, the calf which you had made, and burned it with fire and crushed it and ground it very small, until it was as fine as dust; and I threw its dust into the brook that descended from the mountain.“ Also at Taberah and Massah and Kibroth Hattaavah you provoked the Lord to wrath.Likewise, when the Lord sent you from Kadesh Barnea, saying,‘ Go up and possess the land which I have given you,’ then you rebelled against the commandment of the Lord your God, and you did not believe Him nor obey His voice.You have been rebellious against the Lord from the day that I knew you.

A distressing vision is declared to me; The treacherous dealer deals treacherously, And the plunderer plunders. Go up, O Elam! Besiege, O Media! All its sighing I have made to cease.

And He said,“ Go, and tell this people:‘ Keep on hearing, but do not understand; Keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’“ Make the heart of this people dull, And their ears heavy, And shut their eyes; Lest they see with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And return and be healed.”

O Lord, You have searched me and known me.You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off.You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways.For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether.

For the house of Israel and the house of Judah Have dealt very treacherously with Me,” says the Lord.

Sacrifice and offering You did not desire; My ears You have opened. Burnt offering and sin offering You did not require.

Who is blind but My servant, Or deaf as My messenger whom I send? Who is blind as he who is perfect, And blind as the LORD’s servant?Seeing many things, but you do not observe; Opening the ears, but he does not hear.”

Therefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again:“ He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, Lest they should see with their eyes, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.”

‘ Hear this now, O foolish people, Without understanding, Who have eyes and see not, And who have ears and hear not:

To whom shall I speak and give warning, That they may hear? Indeed their ear is uncircumcised, And they cannot give heed. Behold, the word of the Lord is a reproach to them; They have no delight in it.

among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.

“ Remember this, and show yourselves men; Recall to mind, O you transgressors.

Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me.

Surely, as a wife treacherously departs from her husband, So have you dealt treacherously with Me, O house of Israel,” says the Lord.

Lord, when Your hand is lifted up, they will not see. But they will see and be ashamed For their envy of people; Yes, the fire of Your enemies shall devour them.

Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says:‘ Hearing you will hear and shall not understand, And seeing you will see and not perceive;For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.’

and say,‘ Thus says the Lord GOD to Jerusalem:“ Your birth and your nativity are from the land of Canaan; your father was an Amorite and your mother a Hittite.As for your nativity, on the day you were born your navel cord was not cut, nor were you washed in water to cleanse you; you were not rubbed with salt nor wrapped in swaddling cloths.No eye pitied you, to do any of these things for you, to have compassion on you; but you were thrown out into the open field, when you yourself were loathed on the day you were born.

They have dealt treacherously with the Lord, For they have begotten pagan children. Now a New Moon shall devour them and their heritage.

Because I knew that you were obstinate, And your neck was an iron sinew, And your brow bronze,

“ But like men they transgressed the covenant; There they dealt treacherously with Me.

The Lord GOD has opened My ear; And I was not rebellious, Nor did I turn away.

Judah has dealt treacherously, And an abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem, For Judah has profaned The LORD’s holy institution which He loves: He has married the daughter of a foreign god.

And I said, after she had done all these things,‘ return to Me.’ But she did not return. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it.Then I saw that for all the causes for which backsliding Israel had committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a certificate of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear, but went and played the harlot also.So it came to pass, through her casual harlotry, that she defiled the land and committed adultery with stones and trees.And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah has not turned to Me with her whole heart, but in pretense,” says the Lord.Then the Lord said to me,“ Backsliding Israel has shown herself more righteous than treacherous Judah.
