爾並未嘗聞之、未嘗知之、爾耳從未啟也、我知爾詐偽、自有生以來、稱為悖逆者、

You have neither heard nor understood; from of old your ears have not been open. Well do I know how treacherous you are; you were called a rebel from birth.

You have not heard or understood what I said. Your ears have been plugged up for a long time. I knew very well that you would turn against me. From the day you were born, you have refused to obey me.

You have never heard, you have never known, from of old your ear has not been opened. For I knew that you would surely deal treacherously, and that from before birth you were called a rebel.

“ Yes, I will tell you of things that are entirely new, things you never heard of before. For I know so well what traitors you are. You have been rebels from birth.

You did not hear, you do not know, you were not told beforehand. For I know that you are very deceitful; you were labeled a rebel from birth.

Yes, you didn’t hear. Yes, you didn’t know. Yes, from of old your ear was not opened, for I knew that you dealt very treacherously, and were called a transgressor from the womb.

The wicked go astray from the womb; liars wander about from birth.

For the LORD has poured out on you an overwhelming urge to sleep; he has shut your eyes( the prophets) and covered your heads( the seers).For you the entire vision will be like the words of a sealed document. If it is given to one who can read and he is asked to read it, he will say,“ I can’t read it, because it is sealed.”

“ Remember and do not forget how you provoked the LORD your God in the wilderness. You have been rebelling against the LORD from the day you left the land of Egypt until you reached this place.You provoked the LORD at Horeb, and he was angry enough with you to destroy you.When I went up the mountain to receive the stone tablets, the tablets of the covenant the LORD made with you, I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights. I did not eat food or drink water.On the day of the assembly the LORD gave me the two stone tablets, inscribed by God’s finger. The exact words were on them, which the LORD spoke to you from the fire on the mountain.The LORD gave me the two stone tablets, the tablets of the covenant, at the end of the forty days and forty nights.“ The LORD said to me,‘ Get up and go down immediately from here. For your people whom you brought out of Egypt have acted corruptly. They have quickly turned from the way that I commanded them; they have made a cast image for themselves.’The LORD also said to me,‘ I have seen this people, and indeed, they are a stiff-necked people.Leave me alone, and I will destroy them and blot out their name under heaven. Then I will make you into a nation stronger and more numerous than they.’“ So I went back down the mountain, while it was blazing with fire, and the two tablets of the covenant were in my hands.I saw how you had sinned against the LORD your God; you had made a calf image for yourselves. You had quickly turned from the way the LORD had commanded for you.So I took hold of the two tablets and threw them from my hands, shattering them before your eyes.I fell down like the first time in the presence of the LORD for forty days and forty nights; I did not eat food or drink water because of all the sin you committed, doing what was evil in the LORD’s sight and angering him.I was afraid of the fierce anger the LORD had directed against you, because he was about to destroy you. But again the LORD listened to me on that occasion.The LORD was angry enough with Aaron to destroy him. But I prayed for Aaron at that time also.I took the sinful calf you had made and burned it. I crushed it, thoroughly grinding it to powder as fine as dust, and threw its dust into the stream that came down from the mountain.“ You continued to provoke the LORD at Taberah, Massah, and Kibroth-hattaavah.When the LORD sent you from Kadesh-barnea, he said,‘ Go up and possess the land I have given you’; you rebelled against the command of the LORD your God. You did not believe or obey him.You have been rebelling against the LORD ever since I have known you.

A troubling vision is declared to me:“ The treacherous one acts treacherously, and the destroyer destroys. Advance, Elam! Lay siege, you Medes! I will put an end to all the groaning.”

And he replied: Go! Say to these people: Keep listening, but do not understand; keep looking, but do not perceive.Make the minds of these people dull; deafen their ears and blind their eyes; otherwise they might see with their eyes and hear with their ears, understand with their minds, turn back, and be healed.

LORD, you have searched me and known me.You know when I sit down and when I stand up; you understand my thoughts from far away.You observe my travels and my rest; you are aware of all my ways.Before a word is on my tongue, you know all about it, LORD.

They, the house of Israel and the house of Judah, have dealt very treacherously with me. This is the LORD’s declaration.

You do not delight in sacrifice and offering; you open my ears to listen. You do not ask for a whole burnt offering or a sin offering.

Who is blind but my servant, or deaf like my messenger I am sending? Who is blind like my dedicated one, or blind like the servant of the LORD?Though seeing many things, you pay no attention. Though his ears are open, he does not listen.”

This is why they were unable to believe, because Isaiah also said:He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so that they would not see with their eyes or understand with their hearts, and turn, and I would heal them.

Hear this, you foolish and senseless people. They have eyes, but they don’t see. They have ears, but they don’t hear.

Who can I speak to and give such a warning that they will listen? Look, their ear is uncircumcised, so they cannot pay attention. See, the word of the LORD has become contemptible to them— they find no pleasure in it.

We too all previously lived among them in our fleshly desires, carrying out the inclinations of our flesh and thoughts, and we were by nature children under wrath as the others were also.

“ Remember this and be brave; take it to heart, you transgressors!

Indeed, I was guilty when I was born; I was sinful when my mother conceived me.

However, as a woman may betray her lover, so you have betrayed me, house of Israel. This is the LORD’s declaration.

LORD, your hand is lifted up to take action, but they do not see it. Let them see your zeal for your people and be put to shame. Let fire consume your adversaries.

That is why I speak to them in parables, because looking they do not see, and hearing they do not listen or understand.Isaiah’s prophecy is fulfilled in them, which says: You will listen and listen, but never understand; you will look and look, but never perceive.For this people’s heart has grown callous; their ears are hard of hearing, and they have shut their eyes; otherwise they might see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and turn back— and I would heal them.

You are to say,‘ This is what the Lord GOD says to Jerusalem: Your origin and your birth were in the land of the Canaanites. Your father was an Amorite and your mother a Hethite.As for your birth, your umbilical cord wasn’t cut on the day you were born, and you weren’t washed clean with water. You were not rubbed with salt or wrapped in cloths.No one cared enough about you to do even one of these things out of compassion for you. But you were thrown out into the open field because you were despised on the day you were born.

They betrayed the LORD; indeed, they gave birth to illegitimate children. Now the New Moon will devour them along with their fields.

Because I know that you are stubborn, and your neck is iron and your forehead bronze,

But they, like Adam, have violated the covenant; there they have betrayed me.

The Lord GOD has opened my ear, and I was not rebellious; I did not turn back.

Judah has acted treacherously, and a detestable act has been done in Israel and in Jerusalem. For Judah has profaned the LORD’s sanctuary, which he loves, and has married the daughter of a foreign god.

I thought,‘ After she has done all these things, she will return to me.’ But she didn’t return, and her treacherous sister Judah saw it.I observed that it was because unfaithful Israel had committed adultery that I had sent her away and had given her a certificate of divorce. Nevertheless, her treacherous sister Judah was not afraid but also went and prostituted herself.Indifferent to her prostitution, she defiled the land and committed adultery with stones and trees.Yet in spite of all this, her treacherous sister Judah didn’t return to me with all her heart— only in pretense.” This is the LORD’s declaration.The LORD announced to me,“ Unfaithful Israel has shown herself more righteous than treacherous Judah.
