You said,‘ I am forever— the eternal queen!’ But you did not consider these things or reflect on what might happen.

You said,‘ I am queen forever!’ But you did not think about what you were doing. You did not consider how things might turn out.

You said,“ I shall be mistress forever,” so that you did not lay these things to heart or remember their end.

You said,‘ I will reign forever as queen of the world!’ You did not reflect on your actions or think about their consequences.

You said,‘ I will be the queen forever.’ You did not take these things to heart or think about their outcome.

Yet you said,‘ I will be a queen forever.’ These things you did not consider Nor remember the outcome of them.

And thou saidst, I shall be mistress for ever; so that thou didst not lay these things to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end thereof.

You said,‘ I will be the mistress forever.’ You did not take these things to heart or think about their outcome.

And thou saidst, I shall be a lady for ever:[ so] that thou didst not lay these[ things] to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end of it.

You said,‘ I will rule forever as permanent queen!’ You did not think about these things; you did not consider how it would turn out.

You said,‘ I will be a princess forever,’ so that you didn’t lay these things to your heart, nor did you remember the results.

Oh, that they were wise, that they understood this, That they would consider their latter end!

“ Sit in silence, and go into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans; For you shall no longer be called The Lady of Kingdoms.

The prophets prophesy falsely, And the priests rule by their own power; And My people love to have it so. But what will you do in the end?

“ Remember this, and show yourselves men; Recall to mind, O you transgressors.Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me,

Therefore He has poured on him the fury of His anger And the strength of battle; It has set him on fire all around, Yet he did not know; And it burned him, Yet he did not take it to heart.

“ Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre,‘ Thus says the Lord God:“ Because your heart is lifted up, And you say,‘ I am a god, I sit in the seat of gods, In the midst of the seas,’ Yet you are a man, and not a god, Though you set your heart as the heart of a god

“ Son of man, take up a lamentation for the king of Tyre, and say to him,‘ Thus says the Lord GOD:“ You were the seal of perfection, Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, Beryl, onyx, and jasper, Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes Was prepared for you on the day you were created.“ You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones.

Speak, and say,‘ Thus says the Lord God:“ Behold, I am against you, O Pharaoh king of Egypt, O great monster who lies in the midst of his rivers, Who has said,‘ My River is my own; I have made it for myself.’

O king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father a kingdom and majesty, glory and honor.And because of the majesty that He gave him, all peoples, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him. Whomever he wished, he executed; whomever he wished, he kept alive; whomever he wished, he set up; and whomever he wished, he put down.But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him.Then he was driven from the sons of men, his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. They fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till he knew that the Most High God rules in the kingdom of men, and appoints over it whomever He chooses.“ But you his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, although you knew all this.And you have lifted yourself up against the Lord of heaven. They have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, bronze and iron, wood and stone, which do not see or hear or know; and the God who holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways, you have not glorified.

At the end of the twelve months he was walking about the royal palace of Babylon.

Now the end has come upon you, And I will send My anger against you; I will judge you according to your ways, And I will repay you for all your abominations.My eye will not spare you, Nor will I have pity; But I will repay your ways, And your abominations will be in your midst; Then you shall know that I am the Lord!’“ Thus says the Lord GOD:‘ A disaster, a singular disaster; Behold, it has come!An end has come, The end has come; It has dawned for you; Behold, it has come!Doom has come to you, you who dwell in the land; The time has come, A day of trouble is near, And not of rejoicing in the mountains.Now upon you I will soon pour out My fury, And spend My anger upon you; I will judge you according to your ways, And I will repay you for all your abominations.‘ My eye will not spare, Nor will I have pity; I will repay you according to your ways, And your abominations will be in your midst. Then you shall know that I am the Lord who strikes.
