“ Sit in silence, go into darkness, queen city of the Babylonians; no more will you be called queen of kingdoms.

The Lord says,“ Queen city of the Babylonians, go into a dark prison. Sit there quietly. You will not be called the queen of kingdoms anymore.

“ O beautiful Babylon, sit now in darkness and silence. Never again will you be known as the queen of kingdoms.

“ Daughter Chaldea, sit in silence and go into darkness. For you will no longer be called mistress of kingdoms.

“ Sit silently, and go into darkness, Daughter of the Chaldeans; For you will no longer be called The queen of kingdoms.

Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans; for thou shalt no more be called The mistress of kingdoms.

“ Daughter Chaldea, sit in silence and go into darkness. For you will no longer be called mistress of kingdoms.

“ Sit silently! Go to a hiding place, O daughter of the Babylonians! Indeed, you will no longer be called‘ Queen of kingdoms.’

And you said,‘ I shall be a lady forever,’ So that you did not take these things to heart, Nor remember the latter end of them.

“ But the Lord is in His holy temple. Let all the earth keep silence before Him.”

In the measure that she glorified herself and lived luxuriously, in the same measure give her torment and sorrow; for she says in her heart,‘ I sit as queen, and am no widow, and will not see sorrow.’

How lonely sits the city That was full of people! How like a widow is she, Who was great among the nations! The princess among the provinces Has become a slave!

Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

So he said to him,‘ Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless.Then the king said to the servants,‘ Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

So he carried me away in the Spirit into the wilderness. And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication.And on her forehead a name was written: MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones and the light of the lamp.

raging waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.

And the woman whom you saw is that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth.”

“ Why do we sit still? Assemble yourselves, And let us enter the fortified cities, And let us be silent there. For the Lord our God has put us to silence And given us water of gall to drink, Because we have sinned against the Lord.

And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, The beauty of the Chaldeans’ pride, Will be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.It will never be inhabited, Nor will it be settled from generation to generation; Nor will the Arabian pitch tents there, Nor will the shepherds make their sheepfolds there.

For the stars of heaven and their constellations Will not give their light; The sun will be darkened in its going forth, And the moon will not cause its light to shine.

that you will take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say:“ How the oppressor has ceased, The golden city ceased!

Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying,“ Thus with violence the great city Babylon shall be thrown down, and shall not be found anymore.The sound of harpists, musicians, flutists, and trumpeters shall not be heard in you anymore. No craftsman of any craft shall be found in you anymore, and the sound of a millstone shall not be heard in you anymore.The light of a lamp shall not shine in you anymore, and the voice of bridegroom and bride shall not be heard in you anymore. For your merchants were the great men of the earth, for by your sorcery all the nations were deceived.And in her was found the blood of prophets and saints, and of all who were slain on the earth.”

“ I will also make it a possession for the porcupine, And marshes of muddy water; I will sweep it with the broom of destruction,” says the Lord of hosts.

“ Come down and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon; Sit on the ground without a throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans! For you shall no more be called Tender and delicate.

and saying,‘ Alas, alas, that great city that was clothed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls!For in one hour such great riches came to nothing.’ Every shipmaster, all who travel by ship, sailors, and as many as trade on the sea, stood at a distanceand cried out when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying,‘ What is like this great city?’“ They threw dust on their heads and cried out, weeping and wailing, and saying,‘ Alas, alas, that great city, in which all who had ships on the sea became rich by her wealth! For in one hour she is made desolate.’

He will guard the feet of His saints, But the wicked shall be silent in darkness.“ For by strength no man shall prevail.

You, O king, are a king of kings. For the God of heaven has given you a kingdom, power, strength, and glory;and wherever the children of men dwell, or the beasts of the field and the birds of the heaven, He has given them into your hand, and has made you ruler over them all— you are this head of gold.
