“ Sit in silence, go into darkness, queen city of the Babylonians; no more will you be called queen of kingdoms.

“ O beautiful Babylon, sit now in darkness and silence. Never again will you be known as the queen of kingdoms.

“ Sit silently! Go to a hiding place, O daughter of the Babylonians! Indeed, you will no longer be called‘ Queen of kingdoms.’

You said,‘ I will be the queen forever.’ You did not take these things to heart or think about their outcome.

But the LORD is in his holy temple; let the whole earth be silent in his presence.

As much as she glorified herself and indulged her sensual and excessive ways, give her that much torment and grief. For she says in her heart,“ I sit as a queen; I am not a widow, and I will never see grief.”

How she sits alone, the city once crowded with people! She who was great among the nations has become like a widow. The princess among the provinces has been put to forced labor.

“ Stop fighting, and know that I am God, exalted among the nations, exalted on the earth.”

So he said to him,‘ Friend, how did you get in here without wedding clothes?’ The man was speechless.“ Then the king told the attendants,‘ Tie him up hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

Then he carried me away in the Spirit to a wilderness. I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was covered with blasphemous names and had seven heads and ten horns.The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, adorned with gold, jewels, and pearls. She had a golden cup in her hand filled with everything detestable and with the impurities of her prostitution.On her forehead was written a name, a mystery: BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF PROSTITUTES AND OF THE DETESTABLE THINGS OF THE EARTH.

I will eliminate the sound of joy and gladness from them— the voice of the groom and the bride, the sound of the millstones and the light of the lamp.

They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shameful deeds; wandering stars for whom the blackness of darkness is reserved forever.

And the woman you saw is the great city that has royal power over the kings of the earth.”

Why are we just sitting here? Gather together; let’s enter the fortified cities and perish there, for the LORD our God has destroyed us. He has given us poisoned water to drink, because we have sinned against the LORD.

LORD, do not let me be disgraced when I call on you. Let the wicked be disgraced; let them be quiet in Sheol.

Let all humanity be silent before the LORD, for from his holy dwelling he has roused himself.”

And Babylon, the jewel of the kingdoms, the glory of the pride of the Chaldeans, will be like Sodom and Gomorrah when God overthrew them.It will never be inhabited or lived in from generation to generation; a nomad will not pitch his tent there, and shepherds will not let their flocks rest there.

Indeed, the stars of the sky and its constellations will not give their light. The sun will be dark when it rises, and the moon will not shine.

you will sing this song of contempt about the king of Babylon and say: How the oppressor has quieted down, and how the raging has become quiet!

Then a mighty angel picked up a stone like a large millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, In this way, Babylon the great city will be thrown down violently and never be found again.The sound of harpists, musicians, flutists, and trumpeters will never be heard in you again; no craftsman of any trade will ever be found in you again; the sound of a mill will never be heard in you again;the light of a lamp will never shine in you again; and the voice of a groom and bride will never be heard in you again. All this will happen because your merchants were the nobility of the earth, because all the nations were deceived by your sorcery.In her was found the blood of prophets and saints, and of all those slaughtered on the earth.

“ I will make her a swampland and a region for herons, and I will sweep her away with the broom of destruction.” This is the declaration of the LORD of Armies.

“ Go down and sit in the dust, Virgin Daughter Babylon. Sit on the ground without a throne, Daughter Chaldea! For you will no longer be called pampered and spoiled.

And every shipmaster, seafarer, the sailors, and all who do business by sea, stood far offas they watched the smoke from her burning and kept crying out,“ Who was like the great city?”They threw dust on their heads and kept crying out, weeping, and mourning, Woe, woe, the great city, where all those who have ships on the sea became rich from her wealth; for in a single hour she was destroyed.

He guards the steps of his faithful ones, but the wicked perish in darkness, for a person does not prevail by his own strength.

Your Majesty, you are king of kings. The God of the heavens has given you sovereignty, power, strength, and glory.Wherever people live— or wild animals, or birds of the sky— he has handed them over to you and made you ruler over them all. You are the head of gold.
