埃及人必失魂落魄；我要使他們的計劃混亂。他們必求問偶像、陰魂、招魂的和通靈的；

王大聲高呼，要人把占卜者、迦勒底人和算命者帶來。王開口對巴比倫的智慧人說：「任何人讀出這文字，並把它的釋義講明給我，他就必身穿紫袍，項戴金鏈，在國中掌權，位居第三。」那時，王所有的智慧人都來了，卻不能讀出這文字，也不能把它的釋義顯明給王。於是伯沙撒王極其惶恐，臉色大變，他的大臣們也都驚愕困惑。

那女人身穿紫色和深紅色的衣服，以金子、寶石和珍珠為裝飾。她手裡拿著金杯，杯中盛滿了可憎之物和她淫亂的汙穢。在她的額上寫著一個奧祕的名號：「大巴比倫，地上的淫婦們和可憎之物的母親。」隨後，我看見那女人喝醉了聖徒們的血，以及為耶穌做見證之人的血。我看到她就大大驚奇。

喪子和寡居這兩件事必在一日之內突然臨到你！你的法術再多，符咒再有威力，這兩件事也必全然臨到你！你依靠自己的惡行，說：『沒有人看見我。』你的智慧和知識把你引入歧途，你心裡就說：『只有我，除我以外再沒有別的！』

這不法之人的到來，是出於撒旦的作為，對那些正在滅亡的人，使用一切能力、虛假的神蹟和奇事，並且使用一切不義的詭計，因為他們不接受那能使他們得救的真理之愛。為此，神就把一種迷惑人的力量送進他們裡面，使他們相信虛假之事，好使所有不相信真理而喜悅不義的人，都被定罪。
