“ But he stands alone, and who can oppose him? He does whatever he pleases.

“ Who has stirred up one from the east, calling him in righteousness to his service? He hands nations over to him and subdues kings before him. He turns them to dust with his sword, to windblown chaff with his bow.

“ Come together, all of you, and listen: Which of the idols has foretold these things? The Lord’s chosen ally will carry out his purpose against Babylon; his arm will be against the Babylonians.I, even I, have spoken; yes, I have called him. I will bring him, and he will succeed in his mission.

Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors.

But what can I say? He has spoken to me, and he himself has done this. I will walk humbly all my years because of this anguish of my soul.

I will strengthen you, though you have not acknowledged me,so that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting people may know there is none besides me. I am the Lord, and there is no other.

On the mountains of Israel you will fall, you and all your troops and the nations with you. I will give you as food to all kinds of carrion birds and to the wild animals.
