I am the one who forms light and creates darkness; the one who brings about peace and creates calamity. I am the LORD, who accomplishes all these things.

I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the Lord, do all these things.

If an alarm sounds in a city, do people not fear? If disaster overtakes a city, is the LORD not responsible?

Consider the work of God: For who can make straight what he has bent?In times of prosperity be joyful, but in times of adversity consider this: God has made one as well as the other, so that no one can discover what the future holds.

For God is the judge! He brings one down and exalts another.

For here he is! He formed the mountains and created the wind. He reveals his plans to men. He turns the dawn into darkness and marches on the heights of the earth. The LORD, the God who commands armies, is his name!”

But he replied,“ You’re talking like one of the godless women would do! Should we receive what is good from God, and not also receive what is evil?” In all this Job did not sin by what he said.

Yet he too is wise and he will bring disaster; he does not retract his decree. He will attack the wicked nation, and the nation that helps those who commit sin.

“ Babylon, you are my war club, my weapon for battle. I used you to smash nations. I used you to destroy kingdoms.

to do as much as your power and your plan had decided beforehand would happen.

Show the LORD your God the respect that is due him. Do it before he brings the darkness of disaster. Do it before you stumble into distress like a traveler on the mountains at twilight. Do it before he turns the light of deliverance you hope for into the darkness and gloom of exile.

But with an overwhelming flood he will make a complete end of Nineveh; he will drive his enemies into darkness.

The LORD has made a promise to Israel. He promises it as the one who fixed the sun to give light by day and the moon and stars to give light by night. He promises it as the one who stirs up the sea so that its waves roll. He promises it as the one who is known as the LORD who rules over all.

Seek the LORD so you can live! Otherwise he will break out like fire against Joseph’s family; the fire will consume and no one will be able to quench it and save Bethel.

I will darken all the lights in the sky over you, and I will darken your land, declares the sovereign LORD.

Assyria, the club I use to vent my anger, is as good as dead, a cudgel with which I angrily punish.I sent him against a godless nation, I ordered him to attack the people with whom I was angry, to take plunder and to carry away loot, to trample them down like dirt in the streets.

But if God is quiet, who can condemn him? If he hides his face, then who can see him? Yet he is over the individual and the nation alike,

You make it dark and night comes, during which all the beasts of the forest prowl around.The lions roar for prey, seeking their food from God.When the sun rises, they withdraw and sleep in their dens.Men then go out to do their work, and labor away until evening.

There are times, Jeremiah, when I threaten to uproot, tear down, and destroy a nation or kingdom.But if that nation I threatened stops doing wrong, I will cancel the destruction I intended to do to it.And there are times when I promise to build up and establish a nation or kingdom.But if that nation does what displeases me and does not obey me, then I will cancel the good I promised to do to it.

You also know that the angels who did not keep within their proper domain but abandoned their own place of residence, he has kept in eternal chains in utter darkness, locked up for the judgment of the great Day.

For God, who said“ Let light shine out of darkness,” is the one who shined in our hearts to give us the light of the glorious knowledge of God in the face of Christ.

The LORD said to Moses,“ Extend your hand toward heaven so that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, a darkness so thick it can be felt.”So Moses extended his hand toward heaven, and there was absolute darkness throughout the land of Egypt for three days.No one could see another person, and no one could rise from his place for three days. But the Israelites had light in the places where they lived.

All generous giving and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or the slightest hint of change.
