I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the Lord, do all these things.

I cause light to shine. I also create darkness. I bring good times. I also create hard times. I do all these things. I am the Lord.

Is a trumpet blown in a city, and the people are not afraid? Does disaster come to a city, unless the Lord has done it?

Consider the work of God: who can make straight what he has made crooked?In the day of prosperity be joyful, and in the day of adversity consider: God has made the one as well as the other, so that man may not find out anything that will be after him.

but it is God who executes judgment, putting down one and lifting up another.

For behold, he who forms the mountains and creates the wind, and declares to man what is his thought, who makes the morning darkness, and treads on the heights of the earth— the Lord, the God of hosts, is his name!

But he said to her,“ You speak as one of the foolish women would speak. Shall we receive good from God, and shall we not receive evil?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.

And yet he is wise and brings disaster; he does not call back his words, but will arise against the house of the evildoers and against the helpers of those who work iniquity.

“ You are my hammer and weapon of war: with you I break nations in pieces; with you I destroy kingdoms;

to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place.

Give glory to the Lord your God before he brings darkness, before your feet stumble on the twilight mountains, and while you look for light he turns it into gloom and makes it deep darkness.

But with an overflowing flood he will make a complete end of the adversaries, and will pursue his enemies into darkness.

Thus says the Lord, who gives the sun for light by day and the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar— the Lord of hosts is his name:

Seek the Lord and live, lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and it devour, with none to quench it for Bethel,

All the bright lights of heaven will I make dark over you, and put darkness on your land, declares the Lord God.

“ If I cause wild beasts to pass through the land, and they ravage it, and it be made desolate, so that no one may pass through because of the beasts,even if these three men were in it, as I live, declares the Lord God, they would deliver neither sons nor daughters. They would deliver but their own lives by their righteousness.“ For thus says the Lord God: How much more when I send upon Jerusalem my four disastrous acts of judgment, sword, famine, wild beasts, and pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast!

Woe to Assyria, the rod of my anger; the staff in their hands is my fury!Against a godless nation I send him, and against the people of my wrath I command him, to take spoil and seize plunder, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

When he is quiet, who can condemn? When he hides his face, who can behold him, whether it be a nation or a man?—

You make darkness, and it is night, when all the beasts of the forest creep about.The young lions roar for their prey, seeking their food from God.When the sun rises, they steal away and lie down in their dens.Man goes out to his work and to his labor until the evening.

If at any time I declare concerning a nation or a kingdom, that I will pluck up and break down and destroy it,and if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I intended to do to it.And if at any time I declare concerning a nation or a kingdom that I will build and plant it,and if it does evil in my sight, not listening to my voice, then I will relent of the good that I had intended to do to it.

And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day—

For God, who said,“ Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Then the Lord said to Moses,“ Stretch out your hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, a darkness to be felt.”So Moses stretched out his hand toward heaven, and there was pitch darkness in all the land of Egypt three days.They did not see one another, nor did anyone rise from his place for three days, but all the people of Israel had light where they lived.

coming between the host of Egypt and the host of Israel. And there was the cloud and the darkness. And it lit up the night without one coming near the other all night.

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,

a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness! Like blackness there is spread upon the mountains a great and powerful people; their like has never been before, nor will be again after them through the years of all generations.

And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth,to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.

May the Lord give strength to his people! May the Lord bless his people with peace!

wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of their own shame; wandering stars, for whom the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved forever.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
