列邦免難之民、其集而至、惟彼舁其木偶、禱於不能施救之神者、悉屬無知、

列國流離之民、當大和會、群聽斯言、木偶之上帝、不能救民、凡輦斯像而禱之者、其愚甚矣。

爾自列邦得脫者、俱集而至、同就以聽斯言、惟彼攜其木偶、禱不能施救之神者、悉屬無知、

“ Gather together and come; assemble, you fugitives from the nations. Ignorant are those who carry about idols of wood, who pray to gods that cannot save.

“ Come together, you people of the nations who escaped from Babylon. Gather together and come into court. Only people who do not know anything would carry around gods that are made out of wood. They pray to false gods that can’t save them.

“ Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, you survivors of the nations! They have no knowledge who carry about their wooden idols, and keep on praying to a god that cannot save.

“ Gather together and come, you fugitives from surrounding nations. What fools they are who carry around their wooden idols and pray to gods that cannot save!

“ Come, gather together, and approach, you fugitives of the nations. Those who carry their wooden idols and pray to a god who cannot save have no knowledge.

“ Gather yourselves and come; Come together, you survivors of the nations! They have no knowledge, Who carry around their wooden idol And pray to a god who cannot save.

“ Assemble yourselves and come; Draw near together, You who have escaped from the nations. They have no knowledge, Who carry the wood of their carved image, And pray to a god that cannot save.

Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that carry the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save.

“ Come, gather together, and draw near, you fugitives of the nations. Those who carry their wooden idols, and pray to a god who cannot save, have no knowledge.

Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye[ that are] escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god[ that] cannot save.

Gather together and come! Approach together, you refugees from the nations! Those who carry wooden idols know nothing, those who pray to a god that cannot deliver.

Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the peoples be assembled. Who among them can declare this, and show us former things? Let them bring their witnesses, that they may be justified, or let them hear, and say,“ That is true.”

They are like a palm tree, of turned work, and don’t speak. They must be carried, because they can’t move. Don’t be afraid of them; for they can’t do evil, neither is it in them to do good.”

The rest of it he makes into a god, even his engraved image. He bows down to it and worships, and prays to it, and says,“ Deliver me; for you are my god!”They don’t know, neither do they consider: for he has shut their eyes, that they can’t see; and their hearts, that they can’t understand.No one thinks, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say,“ I have burned part of it in the fire. Yes, I have also baked bread on its coals. I have roasted meat and eaten it. Shall I make the rest of it into an abomination? Shall I bow down to a tree trunk?”He feeds on ashes. A deceived heart has turned him aside; and he can’t deliver his soul, nor say,“ Isn’t there a lie in my right hand?”

Those who make them will be like them; yes, everyone who trusts in them.

Bel bows down. Nebo stoops. Their idols are carried by animals, and on the livestock. The things that you carried around are heavy loads, a burden for the weary.

“ Flee out of the middle of Babylon! Everyone save his own life! Don’t be cut off in her iniquity; for it is the time of Yahweh’s vengeance. He will render to her a recompense.Babylon has been a golden cup in Yahweh’s hand, who made all the earth drunk. The nations have drunk of her wine; therefore the nations have gone mad.Babylon has suddenly fallen and been destroyed! Wail for her! Take balm for her pain. Perhaps she may be healed.“ We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed. Forsake her, and let’s each go into his own country; for her judgment reaches to heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies.

The islands have seen, and fear. The ends of the earth tremble. They approach, and come.Everyone helps his neighbor. They say to their brothers,“ Be strong!”

Listen to those who flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of Yahweh our God, the vengeance of his temple.

Produce your cause,” says Yahweh.“ Bring out your strong reasons!” says the King of Jacob.

“ Those who trust in engraved images, who tell molten images,‘ You are our gods,’ will be turned back. They will be utterly disappointed.“ Hear, you deaf, and look, you blind, that you may see.

who tell wood,‘ You are my father,’ and a stone,‘ You have given birth to me,’ for they have turned their back to me, and not their face; but in the time of their trouble they will say,‘ Arise, and save us!’“ But where are your gods that you have made for yourselves? Let them arise, if they can save you in the time of your trouble; for you have as many gods as you have towns, O Judah.

For Yahweh, the God of Israel, says to me:“ Take this cup of the wine of wrath from my hand, and cause all the nations to whom I send you to drink it.They will drink, and reel back and forth, and be insane, because of the sword that I will send among them.”Then I took the cup at Yahweh’s hand, and made all the nations to drink, to whom Yahweh had sent me:Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, with its kings and its princes, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, a hissing, and a curse, as it is today;Pharaoh king of Egypt, with his servants, his princes, and all his people;and all the mixed people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, all the kings of the Philistines, Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod;Edom, Moab, and the children of Ammon;and all the kings of Tyre, all the kings of Sidon, and the kings of the isle which is beyond the sea;Dedan, Tema, Buz, and all who have the corners of their beard cut off;and all the kings of Arabia, all the kings of the mixed people who dwell in the wilderness;and all the kings of Zimri, all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes;and all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another; and all the kingdoms of the world, which are on the surface of the earth. The king of Sheshach will drink after them.“ You shall tell them,‘ Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel says:“ Drink, and be drunk, vomit, fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.”’It shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at your hand to drink, then you shall tell them,‘ Yahweh of Armies says:“ You shall surely drink.For, behold, I begin to work evil at the city which is called by my name; and should you be utterly unpunished? You will not be unpunished; for I will call for a sword on all the inhabitants of the earth, says Yahweh of Armies.”’

therefore I have declared it to you from of old; before it came to pass I showed it to you; lest you should say,‘ My idol has done them. My engraved image and my molten image has commanded them.’You have heard it. Now see all this. And you, won’t you declare it?“ I have shown you new things from this time, even hidden things, which you have not known.They are created now, and not from of old. Before today, you didn’t hear them, lest you should say,‘ Behold, I knew them.’

“ Every man has become brutish without knowledge. Every goldsmith is disappointed by his image; for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.They are vanity, a work of delusion. In the time of their visitation, they will perish.

But they are together brutish and foolish, instructed by idols! It is just wood.

Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened.Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,and traded the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, four- footed animals, and creeping things.

and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, having killed the hostility through it.

They took the bull which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying,“ Baal, hear us!” But there was no voice, and nobody answered. They leaped about the altar which was made.At noon, Elijah mocked them, and said,“ Cry aloud; for he is a god. Either he is deep in thought, or he has gone somewhere, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he sleeps and must be awakened.”They cried aloud, and cut themselves in their way with knives and lances, until the blood gushed out on them.When midday was past, they prophesied until the time of the evening offering; but there was no voice, no answer, and nobody paid attention.

For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her sexual immorality, the kings of the earth committed sexual immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth grew rich from the abundance of her luxury.”I heard another voice from heaven, saying,“ Come out of her, my people, that you have no participation in her sins, and that you don’t receive of her plagues,for her sins have reached to the sky, and God has remembered her iniquities.Return to her just as she returned, and repay her double as she did, and according to her works. In the cup which she mixed, mix to her double.However much she glorified herself, and grew wanton, so much give her of torment and mourning. For she says in her heart,‘ I sit a queen, and am no widow, and will in no way see mourning.’Therefore in one day her plagues will come: death, mourning, and famine; and she will be utterly burned with fire; for the Lord God who has judged her is strong.The kings of the earth who committed sexual immorality and lived wantonly with her will weep and wail over her, when they look at the smoke of her burning,standing far away for the fear of her torment, saying,‘ Woe, woe, the great city, Babylon, the strong city! For your judgment has come in one hour.’The merchants of the earth weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their merchandise any more:merchandise of gold, silver, precious stones, pearls, fine linen, purple, silk, scarlet, all expensive wood, every vessel of ivory, every vessel made of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble;and cinnamon, incense, perfume, frankincense, wine, olive oil, fine flour, wheat, sheep, horses, chariots, and people’s bodies and souls.The fruits which your soul lusted after have been lost to you. All things that were dainty and sumptuous have perished from you, and you will find them no more at all.The merchants of these things, who were made rich by her, will stand far away for the fear of her torment, weeping and mourning,saying,‘ Woe, woe, the great city, she who was dressed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls!For in an hour such great riches are made desolate.’ Every ship master, and everyone who sails anywhere, and mariners, and as many as gain their living by sea, stood far away,and cried out as they looked at the smoke of her burning, saying,‘ What is like the great city?’

that you were at that time separate from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of the promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

“ What value does the engraved image have, that its maker has engraved it; the molten image, even the teacher of lies, that he who fashions its form trusts in it, to make mute idols?Woe to him who says to the wood,‘ Awake!’ or to the mute stone,‘ Arise!’ Shall this teach? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all within it.But Yahweh is in his holy temple. Let all the earth be silent before him!”

Every man has become brutish and without knowledge. Every goldsmith is disappointed by his engraved image; for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

Some pour out gold from the bag, and weigh silver in the balance. They hire a goldsmith, and he makes it a god. They fall down— yes, they worship.They bear it on their shoulder. They carry it, and set it in its place, and it stands there. It cannot move from its place. Yes, one may cry to it, yet it can not answer. It cannot save him out of his trouble.

In that day, Yahweh’s branch will be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land will be the beauty and glory of the survivors of Israel.
