Let all the nations be gathered together, And let the people be assembled. Who among them can declare this, And show us former things? Let them bring out their witnesses, that they may be justified; Or let them hear and say,“ It is truth.”

“ Behold, I am vile; What shall I answer You? I lay my hand over my mouth.Once I have spoken, but I will not answer; Yes, twice, but I will proceed no further.”

For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God.

And He said to them,“ You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God.

“ Or who has first given to Him And it shall be repaid to him?”

But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus,“ And who is my neighbor?”

“ Keep silence before Me, O coastlands, And let the people renew their strength! Let them come near, then let them speak; Let us come near together for judgment.

Oh, that one might plead for a man with God, As a man pleads for his neighbor!

‘ Thus says the Lord GOD:“ I will also let the house of Israel inquire of Me to do this for them: I will increase their men like a flock.

Yet I had planted you a noble vine, a seed of highest quality. How then have you turned before Me Into the degenerate plant of an alien vine?For though you wash yourself with lye, and use much soap, Yet your iniquity is marked before Me,” says the Lord GOD.“ How can you say,‘ I am not polluted, I have not gone after the Baals’? See your way in the valley; Know what you have done: You are a swift dromedary breaking loose in her ways,A wild donkey used to the wilderness, That sniffs at the wind in her desire; In her time of mating, who can turn her away? All those who seek her will not weary themselves; In her month they will find her.Withhold your foot from being unshod, and your throat from thirst. But you said,‘ There is no hope. No! For I have loved aliens, and after them I will go.’“ As the thief is ashamed when he is found out, So is the house of Israel ashamed; They and their kings and their princes, and their priests and their prophets,Saying to a tree,‘ You are my father,’ And to a stone,‘ You gave birth to me.’ For they have turned their back to Me, and not their face. But in the time of their trouble They will say,‘ Arise and save us.’But where are your gods that you have made for yourselves? Let them arise, If they can save you in the time of your trouble; For according to the number of your cities Are your gods, O Judah.“ Why will you plead with Me? You all have transgressed against Me,” says the Lord.“ In vain I have chastened your children; They received no correction. Your sword has devoured your prophets Like a destroying lion.“ O generation, see the word of the Lord! Have I been a wilderness to Israel, Or a land of darkness? Why do My people say,‘ We are lords; We will come no more to You’?Can a virgin forget her ornaments, Or a bride her attire? Yet My people have forgotten Me days without number.“ Why do you beautify your way to seek love? Therefore you have also taught The wicked women your ways.Also on your skirts is found The blood of the lives of the poor innocents. I have not found it by secret search, But plainly on all these things.Yet you say,‘ Because I am innocent, Surely His anger shall turn from me.’ Behold, I will plead My case against you, Because you say,‘ I have not sinned.’

For You said,‘ I will surely treat you well, and make your descendants as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.’”

He is near who justifies Me; Who will contend with Me? Let us stand together. Who is My adversary? Let him come near Me.

Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:“ Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself,‘ God, I thank You that I am not like other men— extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector.I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.’And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying,‘ God, be merciful to me a sinner!’I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Oh, that I knew where I might find Him, That I might come to His seat!I would present my case before Him, And fill my mouth with arguments.I would know the words which He would answer me, And understand what He would say to me.Would He contend with me in His great power? No! But He would take note of me.

Let my prayer be set before You as incense, The lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
