“ Come now, and let us debate your case,” Says the Lord,“ Though your sins are as scarlet, They shall become as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be like wool.

Who will bring charges against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies;

“ Now tighten the belt on your waist like a man; I will ask you, and you instruct Me.Will you really nullify My judgment? Will you condemn Me so that you may be justified?

All the nations have gathered together So that the peoples may be assembled. Who among them can declare this And proclaim to us the former things? Let them present their witnesses so that they may be justified, Or let them hear and say,“ It is true.”

“ Behold, I am insignificant; what can I say in response to You? I put my hand on my mouth.I have spoken once, and I will not reply; Or twice, and I will add nothing more.”

For not knowing about God’s righteousness and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.

And He said to them,“ You are the ones who justify yourselves in the sight of people, but God knows your hearts; because that which is highly esteemed among people is detestable in the sight of God.

Or who has first given to Him, that it would be paid back to him?

But wanting to justify himself, he said to Jesus,“ And who is my neighbor?”

“ Listen to Me in silence, you coastlands, And let the peoples gain new strength; Let them come forward, then let them speak; Let’s come together for judgment.

That one might plead for a man with God As a son of man with his neighbor!

‘ This is what the Lord God says:“ This too I will let the house of Israel ask Me to do for them: I will increase their people like a flock.

Yet I planted you as a choice vine, A completely faithful seed. How then have you turned yourself before Me Into the degenerate shoots of a foreign vine?Although you wash yourself with lye And use much soap, The stain of your guilt is before Me,” declares the Lord God.“ How can you say,‘ I am not defiled, I have not gone after the Baals’? Look at your way in the valley! Know what you have done! You are a swift young camel running about senselessly on her ways,A wild donkey accustomed to the wilderness, That sniffs the wind in her passion. Who can turn her away in her mating season? None who seek her will grow weary; In her month they will find her.Keep your feet from being bare, And your throat from thirst; But you said,‘ It is hopeless! No! For I have loved strangers, And I will walk after them.’“ Like the shame of a thief when he is discovered, So the house of Israel is shamed; They, their kings, their leaders, Their priests, and their prophets,Who say to a tree,‘ You are my father,’ And to a stone,‘ You gave me birth.’ For they have turned their backs to Me, And not their faces; But in the time of their trouble they will say,‘ Arise and save us!’But where are your gods Which you made for yourself? Let them arise, if they can save you In the time of your trouble! For as many as the number of your cities Are your gods, Judah.“ Why do you contend with Me? You have all revolted against Me,” declares the Lord.“ In vain I have struck your sons; They did not accept discipline. Your sword has devoured your prophets Like a destroying lion.You generation, look to the word of the Lord. Have I been a wilderness to Israel, Or a land of thick darkness? Why do My people say,‘ We are free to roam; We will no longer come to You’?Can a virgin forget her jewelry, Or a bride her attire? Yet My people have forgotten Me For days without number.How well you prepare your way To seek love! Therefore even to the wicked women You have taught your ways.Also on your skirts is found The lifeblood of the innocent poor; You did not find them breaking in. But in spite of all these things,You said,‘ I am innocent; Surely His anger is turned away from me.’ Behold, I will enter into judgment with you Because you say,‘ I have not sinned.’

For You said,‘ I will assuredly make you prosper and make your descendants as the sand of the sea, which is too great to be counted.’ ”

He who vindicates Me is near; Who will contend with Me? Let us stand up to each other. Who has a case against Me? Let him approach Me.

Now He also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and viewed others with contempt:“ Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.The Pharisee stood and began praying this in regard to himself:‘ God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, crooked, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get.’But the tax collector, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to raise his eyes toward heaven, but was beating his chest, saying,‘ God, be merciful to me, the sinner!’I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other one; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Oh that I knew how to find Him, That I might come to His home!I would present my case before Him And fill my mouth with arguments.I would learn the words which He would answer, And perceive what He would tell me.Would He contend with me by the greatness of His power? No, surely He would pay attention to me.

May my prayer be counted as incense before You; The raising of my hands as the evening offering.
