A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice;

I will search for my lost ones who strayed away, and I will bring them safely home again. I will bandage the injured and strengthen the weak. But I will destroy those who are fat and powerful. I will feed them, yes— feed them justice!

Then Jesus said,“ Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.

He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will carry the lambs in his arms, holding them close to his heart. He will gently lead the mother sheep with their young.

He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds.

He will delight in obeying the Lord. He will not judge by appearance nor make a decision based on hearsay.He will give justice to the poor and make fair decisions for the exploited. The earth will shake at the force of his word, and one breath from his mouth will destroy the wicked.

For I have given rest to the weary and joy to the sorrowing.”

That Sunday evening the disciples were meeting behind locked doors because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders. Suddenly, Jesus was standing there among them!“ Peace be with you,” he said.As he spoke, he showed them the wounds in his hands and his side. They were filled with joy when they saw the Lord!Again he said,“ Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.”

before the Lord, for he is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with justice, and the nations with fairness.

I can do nothing on my own. I judge as God tells me. Therefore, my judgment is just, because I carry out the will of the one who sent me, not my own will.

Who among you fears the Lord and obeys his servant? If you are walking in darkness, without a ray of light, trust in the Lord and rely on your God.

before the Lord, for he is coming! He is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with justice, and the nations with his truth.

Help him judge your people in the right way; let the poor always be treated fairly.May the mountains yield prosperity for all, and may the hills be fruitful.Help him to defend the poor, to rescue the children of the needy, and to crush their oppressors.

“ Beware that you don’t look down on any of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels are always in the presence of my heavenly Father.

With this news, strengthen those who have tired hands, and encourage those who have weak knees.Say to those with fearful hearts,“ Be strong, and do not fear, for your God is coming to destroy your enemies. He is coming to save you.”

Then he said to Thomas,“ Put your finger here, and look at my hands. Put your hand into the wound in my side. Don’t be faithless any longer. Believe!”

Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. Its rider was named Faithful and True, for he judges fairly and wages a righteous war.

“ Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat.But I have pleaded in prayer for you, Simon, that your faith should not fail. So when you have repented and turned to me again, strengthen your brothers.”

This is what the Lord says:“ Your injury is incurable— a terrible wound.There is no one to help you or to bind up your injury. No medicine can heal you.All your lovers— your allies— have left you and do not care about you anymore. I have wounded you cruelly, as though I were your enemy. For your sins are many, and your guilt is great.Why do you protest your punishment— this wound that has no cure? I have had to punish you because your sins are many and your guilt is great.“ But all who devour you will be devoured, and all your enemies will be sent into exile. All who plunder you will be plundered, and all who attack you will be attacked.I will give you back your health and heal your wounds,” says the Lord.“ For you are called an outcast—‘ Jerusalem for whom no one cares.’”

He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion.But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.

My hands have made both heaven and earth; they and everything in them are mine. I, the Lord, have spoken!“ I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts, who tremble at my word.

I have heard Israel saying,‘ You disciplined me severely, like a calf that needs training for the yoke. Turn me again to you and restore me, for you alone are the Lord my God.I turned away from God, but then I was sorry. I kicked myself for my stupidity! I was thoroughly ashamed of all I did in my younger days.’“ Is not Israel still my son, my darling child?” says the Lord.“ I often have to punish him, but I still love him. That’s why I long for him and surely will have mercy on him.

The high and lofty one who lives in eternity, the Holy One, says this:“ I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble. I restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts.For I will not fight against you forever; I will not always be angry. If I were, all people would pass away— all the souls I have made.I was angry, so I punished these greedy people. I withdrew from them, but they kept going on their own stubborn way.I have seen what they do, but I will heal them anyway! I will lead them. I will comfort those who mourn,

I will be patient as the Lord punishes me, for I have sinned against him. But after that, he will take up my case and give me justice for all I have suffered from my enemies. The Lord will bring me into the light, and I will see his righteousness.

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed.He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the Lord’s favor has come, and with it, the day of God’s anger against their enemies.To all who mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the Lord has planted for his own glory.

The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him.For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust.

The Sovereign Lord has given me his words of wisdom, so that I know how to comfort the weary. Morning by morning he wakens me and opens my understanding to his will.

Therefore, it was necessary for him to be made in every respect like us, his brothers and sisters, so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God. Then he could offer a sacrifice that would take away the sins of the people.Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested.
