A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice;

He will not break a bent twig. He will not put out a dimly burning flame. He will be faithful and make everything right.

I will seek the lost and bring back the strays; I will bandage the injured and strengthen the sick, but the fat and the strong I will destroy. I will feed them– with judgment!

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

Like a shepherd he tends his flock; he gathers up the lambs with his arm; he carries them close to his heart; he leads the ewes along.

He heals the brokenhearted, and bandages their wounds.

He will take delight in obeying the LORD. He will not judge by mere appearances, or make decisions on the basis of hearsay.He will treat the poor fairly, and make right decisions for the downtrodden of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and order the wicked to be executed.

I will fully satisfy the needs of those who are weary and fully refresh the souls of those who are faint.

On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the disciples had gathered together and locked the doors of the place because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders. Jesus came and stood among them and said to them,“ Peace be with you.”When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.So Jesus said to them again,“ Peace be with you. Just as the Father has sent me, I also send you.”

before the LORD! For he comes to judge the earth! He judges the world fairly, and the nations in a just manner.

I can do nothing on my own initiative. Just as I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, because I do not seek my own will, but the will of the one who sent me.

Who among you fears the LORD? Who obeys his servant? Whoever walks in deep darkness, without light, should trust in the name of the LORD and rely on his God.

before the LORD, for he comes! For he comes to judge the earth! He judges the world fairly, and the nations in accordance with his justice.

Then he will judge your people fairly, and your oppressed ones equitably.The mountains will bring news of peace to the people, and the hills will announce justice.He will defend the oppressed among the people; he will deliver the children of the poor and crush the oppressor.

“ See that you do not disdain one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.

Strengthen the hands that have gone limp, steady the knees that shake!Tell those who panic,“ Be strong! Do not fear! Look, your God comes to avenge! With divine retribution he comes to deliver you.”

Then he said to Thomas,“ Put your finger here, and examine my hands. Extend your hand and put it into my side. Do not continue in your unbelief, but believe.”

Then I saw heaven opened and here came a white horse! The one riding it was called“ Faithful” and“ True,” and with justice he judges and goes to war.

“ Simon, Simon, pay attention! Satan has demanded to have you all, to sift you like wheat,but I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. When you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”

Moreover, the LORD says to the people of Zion,“ Your injuries are incurable; your wounds are severe.There is no one to plead your cause. There are no remedies for your wounds. There is no healing for you.All your allies have abandoned you. They no longer have any concern for you. For I have attacked you like an enemy would. I have chastened you cruelly. For your wickedness is so great and your sin is so much.Why do you complain about your injuries, that your pain is incurable? I have done all this to you because your wickedness is so great and your sin is so much.But all who destroyed you will be destroyed. All your enemies will go into exile. Those who plundered you will be plundered. I will cause those who pillaged you to be pillaged.Yes, I will restore you to health. I will heal your wounds. I, the LORD, affirm it! For you have been called an outcast, Zion, whom no one cares for.”

He gives strength to those who are tired; to the ones who lack power, he gives renewed energy.Even youths get tired and weary; even strong young men clumsily stumble.But those who wait for the LORD’s help find renewed strength; they rise up as if they had eagles’ wings, they run without growing weary, they walk without getting tired.

My hand made them; that is how they came to be,” says the LORD. I show special favor to the humble and contrite, who respect what I have to say.

I have indeed heard the people of Israel say mournfully,‘ We were like a calf untrained to the yoke. You disciplined us and we learned from it. Let us come back to you and we will do so, for you are the LORD our God.For after we turned away from you we repented. After we came to our senses we beat our breasts in sorrow. We are ashamed and humiliated because of the disgraceful things we did previously.’Indeed, the people of Israel are my dear children. They are the children I take delight in. For even though I must often rebuke them, I still remember them with fondness. So I am deeply moved with pity for them and will surely have compassion on them. I, the LORD, affirm it!

For this is what the high and exalted one says, the one who rules forever, whose name is holy:“ I dwell in an exalted and holy place, but also with the discouraged and humiliated, in order to cheer up the humiliated and to encourage the discouraged.For I will not be hostile forever or perpetually angry, for then man’s spirit would grow faint before me, the life-giving breath I created.I was angry because of their sinful greed; I attacked them and angrily rejected them, yet they remained disobedient and stubborn.I have seen their behavior, but I will heal them and give them rest, and I will once again console those who mourn.

I must endure the LORD’s anger, for I have sinned against him. But then he will defend my cause, and accomplish justice on my behalf. He will lead me out into the light; I will experience firsthand his deliverance.

The spirit of the sovereign LORD is upon me, because the LORD has chosen me. He has commissioned me to encourage the poor, to help the brokenhearted, to decree the release of captives, and the freeing of prisoners,to announce the year when the LORD will show his favor, the day when our God will seek vengeance, to console all who mourn,to strengthen those who mourn in Zion, by giving them a turban, instead of ashes, oil symbolizing joy, instead of mourning, a garment symbolizing praise, instead of discouragement. They will be called oaks of righteousness, trees planted by the LORD to reveal his splendor.

As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on his faithful followers.For he knows what we are made of; he realizes we are made of clay.

The sovereign LORD has given me the capacity to be his spokesman, so that I know how to help the weary. He wakes me up every morning; he makes me alert so I can listen attentively as disciples do.

Therefore he had to be made like his brothers and sisters in every respect, so that he could become a merciful and faithful high priest in things relating to God, to make atonement for the sins of the people.For since he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted.
