In that day the deaf will hear words read from a book, and the blind will see through the gloom and darkness.

Looking up to heaven, he sighed and said,“ Ephphatha,” which means,“ Be opened!”Instantly the man could hear perfectly, and his tongue was freed so he could speak plainly!Jesus told the crowd not to tell anyone, but the more he told them not to, the more they spread the news.They were completely amazed and said again and again,“ Everything he does is wonderful. He even makes the deaf to hear and gives speech to those who cannot speak.”

Then he told John’s disciples,“ Go back to John and tell him what you have seen and heard— the blind see, the lame walk, those with leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is being preached to the poor.”

And when he comes, he will open the eyes of the blind and unplug the ears of the deaf.

Ears to hear and eyes to see— both are gifts from the Lord.

Bring out the people who have eyes but are blind, who have ears but are deaf.

Then the Lord asked Moses,“ Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the Lord?

You say,‘ I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.So I advise you to buy gold from me— gold that has been purified by fire. Then you will be rich. Also buy white garments from me so you will not be shamed by your nakedness, and ointment for your eyes so you will be able to see.
