But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, the offspring of Abraham, my friend;

可是你，以色列啊，我的仆人！雅各啊，我所拣选的，我朋友亚伯拉罕的后裔！

我僕以色列、我所選之雅各、我友亞伯拉罕之裔歟、

昔我眷顧亞伯拉罕、簡其後裔、以色列族雅各家、為我臣僕。

惟爾以色列我之僕、我所選之雅各、我所眷愛亞伯拉罕之苗裔、

“ But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, you descendants of Abraham my friend,

The Lord says,“ People of Israel, you are my servants. Family of Jacob, I have chosen you. You are the children of my friend Abraham.

“ But as for you, Israel my servant, Jacob my chosen one, descended from Abraham my friend,

But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, descendant of Abraham, my friend—

“ But you, Israel, My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, Descendant of Abraham My friend,

“ But you, Israel, are My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, The descendants of Abraham My friend.

But thou, Israel, my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend,

But you, Israel, My servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, descendant of Abraham, My friend—

But thou, Israel,[ art] my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend.

“ You, my servant Israel, Jacob whom I have chosen, offspring of Abraham my friend,

“ But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the offspring of Abraham my friend,

and the Scripture was fulfilled that says,“ Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”— and he was called a friend of God.

For you are a people holy to the Lord your God, and the Lord has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.

Did you not, our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham your friend?

Remember these things, O Jacob, and Israel, for you are my servant; I formed you; you are my servant; O Israel, you will not be forgotten by me.

Therefore thus says the Lord, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob:“ Jacob shall no more be ashamed, no more shall his face grow pale.

For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by a slave woman and one by a free woman.But the son of the slave was born according to the flesh, while the son of the free woman was born through promise.Now this may be interpreted allegorically: these women are two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai, bearing children for slavery; she is Hagar.Now Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia; she corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children.But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother.For it is written,“ Rejoice, O barren one who does not bear; break forth and cry aloud, you who are not in labor! For the children of the desolate one will be more than those of the one who has a husband.”Now you, brothers, like Isaac, are children of promise.But just as at that time he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so also it is now.But what does the Scripture say?“ Cast out the slave woman and her son, for the son of the slave woman shall not inherit with the son of the free woman.”So, brothers, we are not children of the slave but of the free woman.

“ But now hear, O Jacob my servant, Israel whom I have chosen!Thus says the Lord who made you, who formed you from the womb and will help you: Fear not, O Jacob my servant, Jeshurun whom I have chosen.

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!

Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine;and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel.”

Look to Abraham your father and to Sarah who bore you; for he was but one when I called him, that I might bless him and multiply him.

You are my friends if you do what I command you.No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.

They answered him,“ We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say,‘ You will become free’?”Jesus answered them,“ Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever.So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.I know that you are offspring of Abraham; yet you seek to kill me because my word finds no place in you.I speak of what I have seen with my Father, and you do what you have heard from your father.”They answered him,“ Abraham is our father.” Jesus said to them,“ If you were Abraham’s children, you would be doing the works Abraham did,but now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did.You are doing the works your father did.” They said to him,“ We were not born of sexual immorality. We have one Father— even God.”Jesus said to them,“ If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and I am here. I came not of my own accord, but he sent me.Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word.You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

And do not presume to say to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father,’ for I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham.

But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel:“ Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.

For the Lord has chosen Jacob for himself, Israel as his own possession.

“ Have you not observed that these people are saying,‘ The Lord has rejected the two clans that he chose’? Thus they have despised my people so that they are no longer a nation in their sight.

For you are our Father, though Abraham does not know us, and Israel does not acknowledge us; you, O Lord, are our Father, our Redeemer from of old is your name.

For he remembered his holy promise, and Abraham, his servant.So he brought his people out with joy, his chosen ones with singing.And he gave them the lands of the nations, and they took possession of the fruit of the peoples’ toil,that they might keep his statutes and observe his laws. Praise the Lord!

Yet the Lord set his heart in love on your fathers and chose their offspring after them, you above all peoples, as you are this day.

And he said to me,“ You are my servant, Israel, in whom I will be glorified.”

“ Listen to me, O Jacob, and Israel, whom I called! I am he; I am the first, and I am the last.

“ For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.It was not because you were more in number than any other people that the Lord set his love on you and chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples,but it is because the Lord loves you and is keeping the oath that he swore to your fathers, that the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

For they are my servants, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt; they shall not be sold as slaves.

O offspring of Abraham, his servant, children of Jacob, his chosen ones!

They are Israelites, and to them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises.To them belong the patriarchs, and from their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ, who is God over all, blessed forever. Amen.But it is not as though the word of God has failed. For not all who are descended from Israel belong to Israel,and not all are children of Abraham because they are his offspring, but“ Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.”This means that it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as offspring.

Why then the law? It was added because of transgressions, until the offspring should come to whom the promise had been made, and it was put in place through angels by an intermediary.

and to make him the father of the circumcised who are not merely circumcised but who also walk in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had before he was circumcised.For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith.
