O people of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more. He will be gracious if you ask for help. He will surely respond to the sound of your cries.

“ Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink— even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk— it’s all free!

God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied.

I will lead blind Israel down a new path, guiding them along an unfamiliar way. I will brighten the darkness before them and smooth out the road ahead of them. Yes, I will indeed do these things; I will not forsake them.

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed.

On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds,“ Anyone who is thirsty may come to me!Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare,‘ Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’”( When he said“ living water,” he was speaking of the Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in him. But the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet entered into his glory.)

You sent abundant rain, O God, to refresh the weary land.There your people finally settled, and with a bountiful harvest, O God, you provided for your needy people.

But tormented by thirst, they continued to argue with Moses.“ Why did you bring us out of Egypt? Are you trying to kill us, our children, and our livestock with thirst?”

Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.”

What’s more, I am with you, and I will protect you wherever you go. One day I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have finished giving you everything I have promised you.”

O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water.I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory.

Samson was now very thirsty, and he cried out to the Lord,“ You have accomplished this great victory by the strength of your servant. Must I now die of thirst and fall into the hands of these pagans?”So God caused water to gush out of a hollow in the ground at Lehi, and Samson was revived as he drank. Then he named that place“ The Spring of the One Who Cried Out,” and it is still in Lehi to this day.

For the Lord will rebuild Jerusalem. He will appear in his glory.He will listen to the prayers of the destitute. He will not reject their pleas.

The wild animals in the fields will thank me, the jackals and owls, too, for giving them water in the desert. Yes, I will make rivers in the dry wasteland so my chosen people can be refreshed.

Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said,“ I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”So we can say with confidence,“ The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?”

“ God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

Jesus replied,“ If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.”“ But sir, you don’t have a rope or a bucket,” she said,“ and this well is very deep. Where would you get this living water?And besides, do you think you’re greater than our ancestor Jacob, who gave us this well? How can you offer better water than he and his sons and his animals enjoyed?”Jesus replied,“ Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again.But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”“ Please, sir,” the woman said,“ give me this water! Then I’ll never be thirsty again, and I won’t have to come here to get water.”

Hungry and thirsty, they nearly died.“ Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble, and he rescued them from their distress.

In my desperation I prayed, and the Lord listened; he saved me from all my troubles.

For I will pour out water to quench your thirst and to irrigate your parched fields. And I will pour out my Spirit on your descendants, and my blessing on your children.

The Spirit and the bride say,“ Come.” Let anyone who hears this say,“ Come.” Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life.

“ The rich man shouted,‘ Father Abraham, have some pity! Send Lazarus over here to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue. I am in anguish in these flames.’

My strength has dried up like sunbaked clay. My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. You have laid me in the dust and left me for dead.

My hands have made both heaven and earth; they and everything in them are mine. I, the Lord, have spoken!“ I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts, who tremble at my word.

The parched tongues of their little ones stick to the roofs of their mouths in thirst. The children cry for bread, but no one has any to give them.

He will rescue the poor when they cry to him; he will help the oppressed, who have no one to defend them.He feels pity for the weak and the needy, and he will rescue them.

I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him?

I will stand before you on the rock at Mount Sinai. Strike the rock, and water will come gushing out. Then the people will be able to drink.” So Moses struck the rock as he was told, and water gushed out as the elders looked on.

The Lord will not reject his people; he will not abandon his special possession.

And he also said,“ It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega— the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life.

Each time he said,“ My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.

“ The time is surely coming,” says the Sovereign Lord,“ when I will send a famine on the land— not a famine of bread or water but of hearing the words of the Lord.People will stagger from sea to sea and wander from border to border searching for the word of the Lord, but they will not find it.Beautiful girls and strong young men will grow faint in that day, thirsting for the Lord’s word.
