Lord, by such things people live; and my spirit finds life in them too. You restored me to health and let me live.

Lord, people find the will to live because you keep your promises. And my spirit also finds life in your promises. You brought me back to health. You let me live.

O Lord, by these things men live, and in all these is the life of my spirit. Oh restore me to health and make me live!

Lord, your discipline is good, for it leads to life and health. You restore my health and allow me to live!

He humbled you, allowed you to be hungry, and fed you with manna, which you didn’t know, neither did your fathers know, that he might teach you that man does not live by bread only, but man lives by every word that proceeds out of Yahweh’s mouth.

He is chastened also with pain on his bed, with continual strife in his bones,so that his life abhors bread, and his soul dainty food.His flesh is so consumed away that it can’t be seen. His bones that were not seen stick out.Yes, his soul draws near to the pit, and his life to the destroyers.“ If there is beside him an angel, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to show to man what is right for him;then God is gracious to him, and says,‘ Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom.’His flesh will be fresher than a child’s. He returns to the days of his youth.He prays to God, and he is favorable to him, so that he sees his face with joy. He restores to man his righteousness.He sings before men, and says,‘ I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it didn’t profit me.He has redeemed my soul from going into the pit. My life will see the light.’

You, who have shown us many and bitter troubles, you will let me live. You will bring us up again from the depths of the earth.

But when we are judged, we are punished by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

For our light affliction, which is for the moment, works for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory,

For they indeed, for a few days, punished us as seemed good to them; but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness.All chastening seems for the present to be not joyous but grievous; yet afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

My soul is laid low in the dust. Revive me according to your word!

But he answered,“ It is written,‘ Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’”

You meet him who rejoices and does righteousness, those who remember you in your ways. Behold, you were angry, and we sinned. We have been in sin for a long time. Shall we be saved?
